What is considered as gossip, and when is it grave matter?

If I talk about someone I know, which the other person has no knowledge of and will never have knowledge of, is this gossip?

We were watching 20 20 today, and there was a story on there about open marriage. I mentioned that I knew of someone who owned a site I used to be on, who practice polyamery, and a few years later he and his wife got divorced. The person I was speaking to had no idea who this was, nor did I mention their name, but was just illustrating an example I knew of.

Is this gossip? Is it grave matter?

If you didn’t mention any names or give identifiable clues then it’s not gossip. You were stating an example of a particular situation.
