Guidelines for praying to saints?

Hello, I was wondering if when asking saints for intercession if it is appropriate to directly address the prayer to them or if one should always ask them to pray for the intention, or to intercede, rather than praying to them as if they were actually to grant it.

For example, would it be wrong to say “St. Laziosi, please help my friend overcome cancer?” Would it only be allowed to say “St. Laziosi, pray that my friend overcomes cancer?”

Sorry if this is an odd question I just want to avoid any sort of worship besides that of God.

Both “St. Laziosi, please help my friend overcome cancer?” and “St. Laziosi, pray that my friend overcomes cancer?” are fine. And you only offer stuff to God not saints but you can offer something to God in honor of a saint.

I ask God through the intercession of the Saint.
