healing

why was healing such a big part of Jesus’ ministry.

To fulfill the words of the Prophets:
Isaiah 53:4a “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.”
Isaiah 42:7 “To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.”
Isaiah 35:6b “Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.”
Isaiah 35:5b “Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.”

I believe his ministry was to declare to all, for all time, about His Mercy and his Power, united with the Father, Creator of All.

No matter how rich we are, no matter how many friends we have, or how powerful we are, illness and suffering knows no prejudice. Only God, in his Mercy, can truly heal us, physically, spiritually and emotionally. In the time of Jesus, they needed a Savior, an ultimate healer. In our time as well, we need the same Jesus.

The *Catechism of the Catholic Church *discusses this in the section entitled, The signs of the Kingdom of God, paragraphs 547-550. In addition, I think the healings show the personal compassion of our Lord Jesus Christ for the sick and disabled.

Because He was The Lord of Life; and as such held command over all factors that diminish or disable life.

The healings were a sign, to draw people to Him, so that they might find the Everlasting Life.
