What is the point of the Incarnation, the Public Ministry, the Resurrection, and the Redemption, if there wasn’t anything to actually save us from?
If all Jesus had to do was die, he could have just let Herod kill him when he was a baby and be done with it, poof. But why would we need a Sacrifice if there wasn’t anything to Sacrifice for?
Instead, Jesus spent three years preaching. “The Kingdom of God is like…” So the things he had to say about the Kingdom of God must have been pretty important. But did he ever say, “You know, everyone’s pretty good deep down inside, even if we fail sometimes. And God understands that.”
We’re supposed to build our lives with daily mindfulness of the four last things: Death, Judgment, Heaven, and Hell. If only two of those things happen-- Death and Heaven-- then why have religion or a moral system of any kind at all? If only one of those things happens-- Death-- why believe in God?
