I am in a desperate situation and am facing homelessness. I left my husband because he was abusive. I went to live with my daughter but I was shocked to discover that she is abusive also! When I finally stood up to her she put me out. My son who lives far away negotiated with her to allow me to stay for 1 1/2 months if I can get a job in that time. I am under a lot of pressure and can’t sleep at night. I go to church everyday, take the Eucharist and visit the Adoration Chapel at my church. I belong to a prayer group but they are totally taken up with a 26 year old foreign man. Everyone prays constantly for him and gives him financial assistance. I have asked for their prayers but I was ridiculed by the leader of my prayer group. She told me “If you don’t have a job, it’s because you don’t want one.” I felt so ashamed. Now that foreign man has a green card and a new job and I am still without work. I only have two weeks to find a job. Yet I have become so depressed, I think constantly about killing myself and ending my sorrows. Today I took a great many pills so I could sleep and not have to suffer this misery. I am in such pain! They say God never gives you more than you can handle. But I seem to have lost my taste for life. Now that I am not doing well, my children and relatives look down on me and have abandoned me. I feel lost and without purpose. I ask God “What am I alive for? Do I serve any purpose - with no job, no money, no security” What have I done to sink so low? I was a good mother and I have worked hard all my life. I can not understand why my life has fallen apart like this. I pray for help, for guidance, for rest, to wish to live again, to find kindness and love in this world which has become so hostile. Please pray with and for me that some door or gate opens to me, that I can find a path. Otherwise let me die quickly, since this is all too horrible to bear. Thank you for whoever is out there listening.

THE PRAYER,
“EVERY DAY I NEED YOU LORD”

Every day I need you Lord
But this day especially,
I need some extra strength
To face whatever is to be.
This day more than any day
I need to feel you near,
To fortify my courage
And to overcome my fear.
By myself, I cannot meet
The challenge of the hour,
There are times when humans help,
But we need a higher power
To assist us bear what must be borne,
and so dear Lord, I pray,
Hold on to my trembling hand
And be near me today.

Amen.

THE PRAYER,
COURAGE TO ACCOMPANY YOU LORD

(By Bede Jarrett, OP)

Courage to accompany you, Lord
Lord, give us all the courage we need
to go the way you shepherd us,
that when you call
we may go unfrightened.
If you bid us come to you across the waters,
that we may not be frightened as we go.
And if you bid us climb the hill,
may we not notice that it is a hill,
mindful only of the happiness of your company.
You made us for yourself,
that we should travel with you
and see you at last in your unveiled beauty
in the abiding city,
where you are light and happiness
and endless home.

Amen.

For the intentions of Shocking who needs Your love, O Lord:

Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail, Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us, and increase Your mercy in us,
that in difficult moments we might not despair,
nor become despondent,
but with great confidence submit ourselves
to Your holy will, which is love and mercy itself. Amen.

Thank you all for your kind and beautiful prayers. I am so grateful. I had a door creak open for me today. It is not a job, but it could lead to work. Also my spirits are way up and I am handling the end of my marriage extremely well. Yesterday I took pills so that I could sleep the misery away. Today, I traveled by bus a total of six hours trying to pursue an opportunity. At 8pm when I got home I went to the Adoration Chapel. Walking home, at 10pm, I talked to a woman living on the street in front of our local public library. This strength came to me from God with your help. Thank you so much and may God bless all who prayed for me.

Prayer For Peace

Merciful Father,
We are together on Earth, alone in the universe.
Look at us and help us to love one another.
Teach us to understand each other,
just as you understand us.
Make our souls as fresh as the morning.
Make our hearts as innocent as the Lamb.
May we forgive each other, and forget the past,
and may we have peace inside - and in our world.
Today and forever.
Amen.
