Help identifying a particular translation of John 14:23

In a chapel in Albuquerque NM, there are 6 wooden panels carved many years ago by Sister Giotto Moots and Sister Meinrad Craighead. After first seeing these panels in the 1980’s (and being a composer) I set the texts of 5 of them to music. But I never knew the precise source of the translations as carved on the panels. The translations are sort of unusual in nature, at least they seem so to me. Here is one of them, and I wonder if anyone could identify for me the source of this translation. It seems to be John 14:23–

LOVE ME AND YOU WILL EARN MY LOVE.
WAIT EARLY AT MY GATE AND YOU WILL GAIN ACCESS TO ME.

thanks,
steve

John 14:23 says

(Contemporary English Version (CEV))

23 Jesus replied:

If anyone loves me, they will obey me. Then my Father will love them, and we will come to them and live in them.

If, indeed, the translation is from that, the theology got turned around completely.
God loves us unconditionally.
There is nothing anywhere in the Bible about earning his love.

I would guess that these are “inspired” quotes.

If we love one another as Jesus loved us, we obey God’s commandment and show that we love him !
