A commercial plane that took off from Libya with 118 passengers on board has been hijacked and diverted to the Mediterranean island of Malta.

The Malta airport authority confirmed that emergency teams have been sent to the site of what it called an “unlawful interference” on the airport tarmac.

Maltese troops have surrounded the plane and negotiations are underway with two possible hijackers.

Airport officials said the Afriqiyah Airways A320 flight has 118 passengers on board.

Malta is a country where Roman Catholicism is the main religion correct?
A strange destination for a Muslim terrorist. Do they know who is behind the skyjacking yet? Prayers for everyone on board.

Praying for the safety & well being of all.

The event is over. Skyjackers surrendered after releasing 111 passengers and crew released at the time of surrender. Congratulations to the hostage negotiators.
It seems the motive was political asylum. Glad everyone is safe.

Yes, although at various points Malta was also occupied by various other powers, including Muslim overlords for a long time. The Maltese were also ruled by Britain for a time and their stand against invasion by Germany in WW2 and the courage they displayed is well remembered in the UK. I am glad the event is over though.

I am glad it was ended peacefully and their courage against Germany in WWII was
