Hill Democrats denied alcohol when license lapsed
Capitol Hill Democrats had a bit of a booze problem last weekend. And no, we’re not talking about the White House Correspondents’ Dinner parties. The National Democratic Club, the restaurant for members on Capitol Hill next to Democratic National Committee headquarters, had to shutter its bar last Friday after its liquor license expired for several hours.
The club had failed to renew the license, operating the bar without the proper paperwork for a few hours Friday before having to empty the cupboards and tape off the bar in accordance with D.C. law.
“It was an administrative oversight,” club President Terry Richards told POLITICO on Monday.
The club got the paperwork resolved, Richards added, and is “currently open for business.”
The club also issued a statement on the matter Monday.
“By now, you may have heard that the club was unable to sell beer, wine, or liquor on this past Friday. Due to an administrative oversight, the club was briefly operating without a liquor license while we were in the process of having it renewed,” the statement read. “I am happy to say that the club’s bar is now OPEN and we invite all Members to join us for a drink. Thank you for your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this temporary issue may have caused.”
Why am I not surprised that whoever is in charge of running the Democrat’s bar is a sloppy administrator?
I’ll bet no bureaucracy has ever acted faster than the DC liquor commission or whatever they call it, restoring the Dem’s license.
