How can I get more out of confession?

I would like to get more comfortable with receiving the sacrament of reconciliation more often, but feel as if all I do is recite the same sins over and over again. Should I ask for the grace to help me with a particular problem rather than just recite the sins like I was taught in elementary school? Is it appropriate to just begin a conversation with the priest when I know there are many people waiting outside? I’m not sure I am comfortable with calling a priest for a personal time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
