How do I fight my porn addiction?

I do it just because, not due to urges, I do it for the heck of it. I feel bad about it, knowing I offended the Lord and how He wants me to come to repentance, because if I confess to Him, He is faithful and just.

I mainly am writing this post in order to confess my sins. Let us all pray for each other.

Stay Strong! There are two people in this world those who fall and stay down, and those who fall and ask the Lord to pick them up. Go to Mass as often as you can, and give yourself totally to Christ. Ask Our Blessed Mother to assist in defeating this sin! Take it one day at a time, and don’t ever give up! Here is a link to help.catholic.com/video/overcoming-pornography-addiction I will keep you in my prayers!

God Bless you!

You say that you are doing it just for the heck of it, rather than due to a compulsion. If that’s truly the case, then you simply have to stop. Delete it from your machine, perhaps install some blocking software, and pray over it.

Also, you should go to a priest for confession, not a forum :stuck_out_tongue: Definitely go the next time your church offers reconciliation. Mine offers it every Saturday before mass. Yours probably does something similar.

Use the thought that by not giving in to the addiction that you’re making Satan more and more angry. That is a good thing! Throw his plans for you back in his face.

And continue to pray. Continue to receive the sacraments.

Then stop doing it, just for the heck of it, and if you can, rejoice! Use the time God has blessed you with for better things. If you find it more difficult to stop (you do call it an addiction in your title), then there is help, resources available for you. You have my prayers, and kindly pray for me as well. Take courage, and make a good confession.

Even if you are doing it just for the heck of it, you should still go to confession. It may just be a “for the heck of it” thing right now, something you do to pass the time, but if you don’t stop now, it may not be so easy to stop later.

perhaps if you remove the temptation. i don’t know how you get porn exactly but if on the computer, maybe block it like someone suggested. or if it’s from a store, try and take different routes and avoid the place?

Looks like this quote might help in a few threads today. It may help to read this C.S. Lewis quote regarding “imaginary brides”:
For me the real evil of masturbation would be that it takes an appetite which, in lawful use, leads the individual out of himself to complete (and correct) his own personality in that of another (and finally in children and even grandchildren) and turns it back; sends the man back into the prison of himself, there to keep a harem of imaginary brides.

And this harem, once admitted, works against his ever getting out and really uniting with a real woman.

For the harem is always accessible, always subservient, calls for no sacrifices or adjustments, and can be endowed with erotic and psychological attractions which no woman can rival.

Among those shadowy brides he is always adored, always the perfect lover; no demand is made on his unselfishness, no mortification ever imposed on his vanity.

In the end, they become merely the medium through which he increasingly adores himself…After all, almost the main work of life is to come out of our selves, out of the little dark prison we are all born in. Masturbation is to be avoided as all things are to be avoided which retard this process. The danger is that of coming to love the prison.”

Just don’t do it … Simple. It’s so hard but so simple? I went a year without once but obviously failed but now back on track

Don’t underestimate the one who whispers in your ear, “Do this just for the helluvit.”

The one who whispers that to you is not yourself. He is your enemy. Treat him as such. Make the sign of the cross every time you hear that whisper and that bloodsucker will shrink from your presence.

Remember too that the people who make pornography are pathetic, and they want you to join their company. And they want your money. Do you really want to give them your money?

There is research that shows that pornography acts like a stimulant drug causing a person to become addicted to pornography’s use. You might want to search for the YouTube video of a Ted Talk entitled, “The Great Porn Experiment”. I found this video enlightening and would have to agree with virtually everything it discussed, except for certain parts of its conclusion.

Pope Francis also gave a homily a month or two ago in which he discussed the state of man in relation to the sin of impurity. If you can’t find that homily let me know and I’ll try to send you a link.

Personally I know that pornography is extremely dangerous and is insidious. It is an aspect of sex addiction, which is an addiction that is cunning, baffling, powerful and ancient. The sin of impurity is the only sin, that is discussed in the Bible, in which we are specifically instructed to Flee from it!

Peace, TW

Block all porn sites from your computer, phone and cable T.V. Leave your computer and/or Ipad at work if you have to.

Makes me think of Lilith. That name comes to mind. She had relations with Adam during Adam and Eve’s 120 year estrangement in early Hebrew mythos.

By viewing porn you are consenting to the devil’s wishes for you.You are, in effect, making yourself his plaything. You are making yourself his instrument, on which he will play any tune that takes his fancy.

Avoid this insidious garbage, at all costs

Longing for the love of God was the best motivation in my life in achieving a greater self-control. Instead of asking yourself, “how can I avoid this sin?”, change the question to “How can I live a virtuous life?”. By pursuing the virtues every second of your life, you will be exercising your spiritual health, creating a fortress on your soul, but just because you love God so much that all your happiness is derived from this everlasting love.

I strongly advice you to read the catechism section on the virtues. You can find there about true and everlasting happiness, as opposed to this temporary happiness of the flesh.

P.S: On other note, you could research how pornography is as such evil industry. By watching it, there is a very large chance you are directly or indirectly supporting traffic and abuse of women and children.

Pray to GOD in the name of his son lord JESUS for the strength and aid to deliver you from evil. Ask for the strength to resist adultery and lust. The enemy will try to hold you captive and will blind you to the wickedness of the addiction, compulsion and sexual immorality that corrupts you.

**1 Corinthians 6:15-20

New International Version (NIV)**

15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”[a] 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.*

18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.**

As in all addictions the best method to resistance is to pray for deliverance from that bondage, and refrain from any focus on the “triggers”; or anything that relates to the feeling that might ignite or propel you in IT’s direction. The mind is where it begins…the seeds elicited from thought and this is where the enemy tunes into a person and utilizes that formulae to create the “evolving wheel” so to speak.

that is why we are told to “resist the devil and he will flee from you”, in order to remain faithful and free from enslavement for the enemy; which is…

“Roaring around us like a lion; seeks whom it can devour!”

Praise be to GOD the heavenly father and his son lord JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>>>>>>>>*

I can attest to at least becoming used to the prison, becoming comfortable w/it, kinda resigning yourself to the attitude of this will never change, so I might as well make the best of it…:frowning:
