[quote=Forest-Pine]First, why this picking and choosing of when to get confirmed and by whom? I mean, if I was given the option of being confirmed at my normal parish with my usual priest or waiting a month and being confirmed by the pope when he visited our parish for a confirmation mass, I think I would postpone for the month. But all this going all over the country to pick and choose who will confirm you where seems odd to me. What does it matter what the faith of the priest is? What matters is YOUR faith.
Many people who love the Tridentine Mass travel long distances to it. I see nothing wrong with wanting to travel to a Tridentine Confirmation, as long as it is legitimate. Tridentine Confirmations by a Bishop are much rarer than Tridentine Masses in general, so someone wanting a Tridentine Confirmation should be prepared to travel a distance.
Yes, I agree with you that my faith matters, but it is wonderful when the Priest is holy as well!
Similarly, I find it odd that you want to find a sponsor who meets all these criteria to get confirmed within the month. While I can understand your desire to have someone who supports your views to be in the role of sponsor, you are then taking out all the “sponsor” jobs of helping you to grow in your faith and just sticking the person with the ceremonial duty of standing beside you. Why then does it matter who stands there, when you have diminished the role already?
I want to have someone as my Sponsor that I can agree with, precisely because I want someone to help me grow in my faith. I do not think that I am taking out all of the “sponsor” jobs. Of course I want someone to stand beside me, but I want someone that will give me GOOD advice to help me grow in my faith.
Even if I get Confirmed in a month or two, my Sponsor can still have a relationship with me AFTER the ceremony.
I want someone that I can agree with. I had a terrible debacle with my Baptismal Sponsor, who has some very unusual ideas.
Lastly, there have been several suggestions to help you in your search (contacting various bishops, for example) and you brush those away and instead want to charge forward on your own. What then are you looking for here? Someone to say s/he will sponsor you?
I have, within the last hour or so, contacted the Archdiocese of St. Louis through their Internet site, inquiring about the Confirmation scheduled for October 15. I have also contacted the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest, who staffs St. Francis de Sales Oratory. This is where the Confirmation will be held.
I have also e-mailed Bishop Rifan, asking him when he will be in the US. He will be in three different places from November 10-23: Lincoln, Nebraska; Washington, DC; and Providence, Rhode Island.
As for who to pick for a Sponsor, I don’t know yet. Would a Priest be a good choice?
