How many times is money mentioned in the Bible?

  1. I would like to know how many verses are there where Jesus talked about money.

  2. I heard there are 800 verses in the Bible about money. Is that what you’ve heard?

Thank you,
Dana Covington

I’ve heard the 800 number, I’ve also heard “over 2000” - I think it’s hard to pin down because you obviously are not just looking for the word “money” but also other references - names of coins (drachma, talent, denarius, etc), references to wealth, to possessions, to tithing, etc. So for example, when Jesus tells the parable about the rich many who ordered his barns pulled down and larger ones built to store his vast harvest, only to be called a fool because he was to die that very night - is that about money? Most of us would say yes, but there isn’t any actual money in the text. . . .

I think you need to consult a Concordance.

I couldn’t you tell how many times money or currency is mention in the scriptures. But what I have noticed is when the Lord speaks of such things He almost always refers to what is valued, what should be valued, and the weight of it.

Prov:11:1: A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.

Prov:16:11: A just weight and balance are the LORD’s: all the weights of the bag are his work.

Prov:20:10: Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

Prov:20:23: Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

A keyword search of the King James Version on turned up 125 uses of the word “money” specifically. Different translations will be different, of course.
