How old were you when you got married?

How old were you when you got married, and how many kids do you have?

I know that every couple’s story is different, but I’ve heard differing things when it comes to childbearing in your 30s – specifically after 35. I know generally in your early 30s there aren’t a lot of problems conceiving and having a child, but I hear differing things when you pass 35, and that over 35 it gets more difficult to have kids, and fertility drops sharply after 40.

Did any of you get pregnant after 35 or even 40, and did you have serious complications?

Thanks!

My wife got pregnant after us having sex 1 time in a year and we are both 39 (yes, this was an unplanned pregnancy). THis is our 3rd child. . .we have a 10 year old and a 5 year old.

Someone up there is laughing at me.

No complications so far. . .although the wife has been mandated to see a high risk OB/GYN because of advanced maternal age. We did genetic testing and ultrasounds. I thank God the baby appears healthy so far.

We are due in June.

So. . .never doubt the ability of the human body to reproduce itself.

It’s weird now to have to lecture my 10 year old son on sex when this happened. I am at a loss for words.

I was 22, he was 26. Waited until I was 24 to get pregnant. I never had a problem, every time we ‘took a chance’ I got pregnant. 5 pregnancies in 5 years, 3 children, 2 miscarriages.

We were both 22 when we married. We have 4 children, and they are 15, 13, 9 and 7 years old.

I was 19 (and stupid) the first time I got married. We had 3 kids within ten years. The marraige lasted 12 years.

I was married at 33 the second time, was pregnant within 4 months. I am now 43 and pregnant with #5. I concieved after having sex once in a month.

m at 19, 3 by age 24, then emergency surgery and no more, sadly.

however all of my friends from that time did the 60s feminist career thing and married late, mid-30s to early 40s, and all have at least 2 children (one has 5), and also they are all still married in seemingly solid families. their kids are now college age, only a bit older than my grandchildren.

I was 25, he was 32. Got pregnant 2 months after the wedding. We were taking chances like it was going out of style.

My parents married at 28 and 31, and had six kids, the last three were when she was 36, 39, 44 years old. So obviously she didn’t have fertility problems after 35 :stuck_out_tongue: To the best of my knowledge the only problem pregnancy was with me at 44, she had high BP, was in the hospital for a few weeks before and after they delivered me (c-sec i think, around 28-30 weeks).

OTOH my sister was only 27 when she had her little girl and she had the same problem, was forced to deliver early b/c of high BP. So who knows what the cause was.

That said, I’m 23 and getting married in 3 months   so I’m hoping I don’t have any difficulties since we want a medium-large size family.

I attempted marriage (and later received a decree of nullity) at 20. I had children of that marriage, at 21 and 22.

I married (as far as I know) at 32. We’ve never been blessed with womb children, but raised the two of the attempted marriage, and now have 2 more who are biologically my granddaughters. As far as I know, we are blessed to still be married 19 years later.

Married at 21, had my last child at 29. Oldest child is now 22 and youngest is 17.

I’m going to be a young granny!

I married and had our first child at 22. Our children are 18, 15, 11 and 9. We weren’t Catholic and my husband got a vascetomy. We both now regret that decision but my husband does not want to undergo more surgery. So, no more children for us.:frowning:

On the positive side, we have been married for 19 very, very happy years.

I was 25, dh was 29. Had our first (and only so far) at 26 & 30. Now we’re 32 and 36, and been ttc for about a year and a half.

I was 27 and he was 29 when we got married.

We have three living children and one who was stillborn. Those who are still with us are (or will be in the next two weeks) 21, 18, and 16.

I was 22–right out of college–hubby was 32. My dd says she wants to get married at that age, because I did…but, I tell her, you’ll know when it’s right…we did.

Congratulations on the pregnancy! I still find it hard to believe that 39 is considered “advanced maternal age”. That is only 11 years older than me. So strange! Glad everyone is healthy.

I was 26 when I got married and my DH was 28. He wanted to have kids by the age of 30. He is exactly 30 now and our baby should be due about a week before he turns 31. Haha. Maybe the baby will be late and share his birthday! I wonder how he would like that?

I do know a lot of people who get married at around 28 and then wait and wait and wait until they are 34 and are comfortable with having kids. I know it is very personal but I don’t think people should wait unless they are in a situation where they did meet their spouse until age 34!

I was 24 he was 25 when I had an ex-wedding (invalid “marriage”) for 11 years. No children.

I was married FOR REAL to my sweet husband in 2006 - I am now 43, he’s 30. No children - not by choice.
