How to explain about views on pregnancy resulting from rape?

What is the best, most sympathetic, yet truly Catholic response to somebody who asks “what about a 12 year old girl who gets pregnant by a rapist?” They tend to think we lack compassion to the point that we are monsters if we think abortion should not be allowed in these cases, particularly for a very young girl whose health may be threatened by carrying a baby at such a premature age.
