How To Get To Heaven When You Die

#1

ARE YOU 100% SURE THAT IF YOU DIED TODAY THAT YOU WOULD GO TO HEAVEN?

THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  1. REALIZE THAT YOU ARE A SINNER AND IN NEED OF A SAVIOR:

Ro 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Ro 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”

This all began with the story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. God created them perfect, there was no death or sorrow. God told them not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They disobeyed God and as a result, sin entered into the world. The pain which this world sees is the result of sin.

  1. BECAUSE OF OUR SINS, WE DIE BOTH SPIRITUALLY AND PHYSICALLY, BUT GOD SENT HIS SON TO TAKE OUR PUNISHMENT AND GIVE US A CHANCE NOT TO HAVE TO GO TO HELL.

Ro 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Ro 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Every person who has ever lived is a sinner and is not righteous because we do bad things. A sin is a crime against God, just as if you steal something at the store, it is punishable by going to jail. It’s the same thing with sin. Even if we lie one time, the punishment is hell, which is a prison for those who commit crimes against God. No matter how well you live your life from then on, you have already committed a sin which will be punished if you are not pardoned. If you commit a crime, and then live as a good citizen you still will go to jail for the crime you committed. Right? Just as the president can pardon a crime so you won’t go to jail, Jesus can pardon your sins so that you do not go to hell, and can go to heaven when you die.

  1. IF WE WILL ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS OUR LORD WITH OUR MOUTHS AND BELIEVE IN OUR HEARTS THAT HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD, BY DOING THIS WE ARE RECEIVING HIM:

Ro 10:9,10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: {power: or, the right, or, privilege}
(KJV)

You cannot get to heaven by being a good person, going to church, baptism or any other way other than by turning to Jesus and asking Him to forgive you for your sins and save you. While these are good things to do, some people believe that they will get to heaven if they do these things, but the bible says that there is only one way to heaven and that is through receiving what Jesus Christ did on the cross for you.

Will you do that today? If you will, you can be 100% sure that you will go to heaven when you die.

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS AND ROSE FROM THE DEAD FOR YOUR SINS? DO YOU ACCEPT WHAT HE DID FOR YOU TO PAY FOR YOUR SINS?

  1. If you are willing to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior please pray this right now, from your heart to God,

“Dear LORD JESUS, I believe that YOU died on the Cross and Rose from the dead for my sins. I ask you to come into my heart and forgive me for my sins, take me to heaven when I die. I now receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus holy name, Amen.”

If you prayed that prayer from your heart to God, and meant it with all of your heart, you are now a child of God and will go to heaven when you die.

Now that you are on your way to heaven, you should attend a bible believing church and follow in baptism.

Keeping my eyes on this thread as I know it will definitely get interesting. :tiphat:

#3

Should be very interesting indeed.

#4

Whoever voted for “The church” are you for real? You think the church will get you to heaven and not Jesus Christ Himself? I don’t get it. Could you please explain why? The bible says otherwise.

#5

The moderators will probably find the thread interesting, also. Typical anti-Catholic claptrap which probably won’t last the day. The difference between us and him is that we believe the entire Bible, not just parts of it.

#6

I’m one of the people that voted for “the Church”. I believe that everything the Church stands for is the truth, and yes, this includes Jesus Christ Himself. It’s kind of hard to say one or the other when, to me, they both mean the same.

#7

Amen, GeezerBob! One can’t pick pieces and parts of Scripture to support one’s argument. It wasn’t meant to be read and studied that way. It leads to a one dimensional understanding of Christianity.

I’ll pray for you, xfrodobagginsx, that you’ll discover the Truth as you explore the Catholic forums.

God bless,
Catherine

#8

Why not try all the choices, starting with trusting jesus and his church, then working your way down, since all of the choices can help.

#9

Do you trust your father or your brother? scratches his head

xfrodobagginsx, let’s look at your options.

  1. BY TRUSTING JESUS CHRIST ALONE AS LORD AND SAVIOR
This is very imprortant but I believe that those who reject the Church may fall into this cathegory as well. Rejecting the Church will certainly make the path to heaven narrower.

  2. BY TRUSTING IN "THE CHURCH"
This is very important. If you trust the Chuch you must automatically trust in Jesus. I say this actually desribes the one possible correct answer however because of the ambiguity of this option I will not select it.

  3. BY PRAYING TO MARY
No, absolutelly not. You might however be granted many graces that will aid you in your journey.

  4. BY BEING GOOD
No way! Being good is important but alone it’s like jumping on a train without a ticket.

  5. OTHER
I think I might go for this one. I will select: To trust Jesus and try to walk in all his Commandments. If you trust Jesus and walk in all his commandments then you will become a Catholic! You will definatelly trust our Holy Mother Church!

Whoever voted for “The church” are you for real? You think the church will get you to heaven and not Jesus Christ Himself? I don’t get it. Could you please explain why? The bible says otherwise.

Well, this is preciselly the reason why I didn’t choose option 2. It was obvious why it’s there and how you interpret it. However that is not how we see it nor how it is. We are very real because we don’t believe that trust in Jesus and trust in the Church is matually exlusive. They are not. One of the purposes of the Church is to spread to Gospel and to teach us to trust Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savour and follow his all commandments. The Holy Mother Church holds the fullness of truth and if I trust in Her all the other things must follow. In fact, the very fact that you follow the Bible you place your trust in Her (even thought you might not even be aware of it).

If you will, you can be 100% sure that you will go to heaven when you die.

Nope! Once Saved, Always Saved?

Now that you are on your way to heaven, you should attend a bible believing church and follow in baptism.

Most of us here are already in the Chuch who is bible believing and are definatebly already baptized. Save your energy and go to Africa to preach Jesus to the pegan and semi-pegan tribes. How about that?

I’ll take a stab at this.

**By Trusting Jesus Christ Alone as Lord and Savior.

**Well, if I trust Christ then I trust His words, yes?

Matthew 16:18 “Upon this Rock I shall build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

**By Trusting in The Church.

** He established a Church and gave it authority. Does that not mean we ought to listen to the Church He gave us? How can I say I trust Christ if I refuse to trust the Church He set up for us?

**By Praying to Mary.

**If by “praying to Mary” you mean treating her as equal to God (which is what many Protestants seem to think) then I say that is forbidden. There is one God and no other. The Virgin Mary is only a woman, as much in need of God’s grace as anyone else.
That being said
Luke 1: 46-55, the prayer uttered by Mary in which she says
"Behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed, for He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name."
Holy Scripture testifies that it is God’s will that we honor her by calling her blessed, and she herself says it is because of God’s greatness and His gifts to her. We glorify Him when we honor her.

**By Being Good.

**No amount of “being good” can get us into Heaven. Salvation is the free gift of grace from God, that we accept through our faith in Christ Jesus.
But – if we have faith in Him, won’t we want to obey Him? Hence, won’t we want to do whatever good we can?
On the other hand if we refuse ever to do what he asks of us, how can we say we have faith in Him?

About “attending a bible believing church”…Well, I do that. I attend the Holy Roman Catholic Church, which believes and teaches the Holy Scriptures.
Have you ever attended a Catholic Mass? There is a reading from the Gospels, a reading from the Epistles, a reading from the Old Testament, and a reading from the Psalms.
Furthermore the readings follow a schedule such that each day there is a new set of readings, Rather than concentrate on a few parts of the Scripture we hear all of it through the Mass.

FrodoBaggins, welcome to the board. You don’t seem to have any idea of what Catholics believe. Apparently you’ve been misinformed by someone with an anti-Catholic agenda. We believe in salvation by Jesus’ grace, not by working our way to heaven. We don’t believe that praying to Mary gets us to heaven. And we don’t believe we are saved by the Church — we are saved BY Jesus THROUGH the Church.

Stick around to learn what we really believe — then tell us what you think.

#12

Is that your goal? Making sure YOU go to heaven? Isn’t that a bit self-centered? Shouldn’t your goal be something more like “to know, love, and serve the Lord?”
*]I am 100% sure Jesus is God
*]I am 100% sure that Jesus sent His Church out to teach all the nations (myself included)
*]I am 100% sure that His mercy and justice is perfect
*]I am 100% sure that He died for my sins
Am I going to heaven? Well… I hope so. But more importantly, I hope His will will be done in my life, this world, and all of eternity, and to that end I am trying my best to be obedient to Him, and trust in His perfect mercy and justice.

If that makes me an idolator or a “churchian” in your eyes, then so be it. I’m more concerned with His will than yours.

#13

If one need only “trust” Christ, why do we need the Bible? Why do we need to join a “bible-believing” church?

#14

I think this poll is completely misleading. How can you separate the Church and Jesus Christ? Do you think the two divorce?

Such a strange assumption. The Church is the Mystical Body of Christ. The Church is also the Bride of the Lamb.

#15

i can tell you this, the outcome of who goes to heaven or not is up to God and not man. you do your best to live the way Christ wants you to live, you believe in Him, and as well as His One True Holy and Apostolic Church, the Catholic Church. others who through no fault of their own, who have led a good upstanding moral life who die are in the hands of God. it is not just by scripture alone that you must live. Christ gave us the Church, and it is His true church.
therefore, we are to follow what the church says because it is the truth. this truth was given to us by Christ Himself. everyone in their life on earth has a chance to come to know this truth. everyone.

as for who gets to heaven, that is up to God to decide and not man. we can have the hope yes, and we can live our lives pleasing to God, and walk in His ways, and follow Christ. But the decision of who goes to heaven or not is up to God Himself. it would be presumptuos on our part to definitively state that we are indeed going to heaven, we do not know this.

frodo,

Start with 1 Timothy 3:15.

You might start by reading the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:31-46 and decide whether you will be among the sheep or the goats.

#18

Honestly, I can’t vote for just one.

Its a combination…

  1. You have to trust Christ, and believe in his words Completely
  2. You have to be obedient to the Church HE founded. Believing in His Church means you Believe in him. The two aren’t separable. Following His church means you are following Him. It is not a follow him OR the church, because the two are inseparable.
  3. Well, extrapolating, we are commanded to pray for one another. It shows our love. If I have faith enough to move mountains, but not love, my faith is useless. So, I don’t limit asking for and and praying for to Just Mary. Thats Like saying am I not allowed to pray for you? Are you not allowed to pray for me?
  4. Being Good - This alone is impossible, but you have to be obedient in combination with your belief. “Why do you call me Lord Lord and Not do as I say?!”

Its not an exclusionary deal…
All of it is needed.

In Christ

As sure as you are.

Yes, I am taught this by the Catholic Church.

This I am also taught by the Catholic Church.

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: {power: or, the right, or, privilege}
(KJV)I’m sorry, but I don’t see that statement in red in your verse citations. Isn’t this what the New Testament calls “going beyond what is written”?

You cannot get to heaven by being a good person,

As I was taught by the Catholic Church…

going to church,

But according to Matthew 16:18-19 Jesus built and commissioned His church did He not. If it does not play a vital role in our salvation, then why bother?

baptism

Matthew 28:19 seems to disagree with you. As does Acts 2:38-39 and 22:16. Even Our Lord Himself said He would fulfill all righteousness by being baptized. (Matthew 3:13-15)

or any other way other than by turning to Jesus and asking Him to forgive you for your sins and save you. While these are good things to do, some people believe that they will get to heaven if they do these things, but the bible says that there is only one way to heaven and that is through receiving what Jesus Christ did on the cross for you.

So…according to you…an expression faith in the sacrifice of Christ on the cross is all that is needed for salvation? What about Matthew 25:31-46 then?

Will you do that today? If you will, you can be 100% sure that you will go to heaven when you die.

Sorry…I have already come to Christ.

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS AND ROSE FROM THE DEAD FOR YOUR SINS? DO YOU ACCEPT WHAT HE DID FOR YOU TO PAY FOR YOUR SINS?

Yes I have. Just as I was taught here in the Catholic Church.

So…there is nothing more to do to be a Christian? :hmmm:

If you prayed that prayer from your heart to God, and meant it with all of your heart, you are now a child of God and will go to heaven when you die.

I don’t know of any Bible passages that teach this assurance. If so, why does St. Paul teach us to “work out our salvation with fear and trembling” and even say that “unless having preached to others he himself might be lost.”:bible1:

Now that you are on your way to heaven, you should attend a bible believing church and follow in baptism.

I do and I have. I am a faithful believer in the Catholic Church. The pillar and ground of the truth. (1st Timothy 3:15 “the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”)

My goodness, it’s been a really long time since I’ve seen the “Romans Road” approach to ‘witnessing!’ To think I was once convinced that this was an accurate summary of what Our Lord said on the matter of salvation… :o
