How to Pray for a loved one struggling with reprecussions of unchaste/promiscuous behavior?

A family member recently asked me to pray for them because past promiscuity and divorce/adultery has caused a lot of emotional health issue and spiritual suffering. They are repentant and want to recover from the wounds from the unhealthy behaviors.

I have read about praying a Chaplet to St. Mary Magdalene is appropriate, with a nine bead chaplet standing for 3 Our Fathers, 3 Hail Marys and 3 Glory Be, followed by a specific petition to Mary Magdalene. Is this correct? If it is correct, then how do I petition a saint? If the instruction is incorrect, what would be appropriate?
Thank you very much.

This may not be one of their issues, but if abortion is part of their history, there is a wonderful healing weekend called Rachel's Vineyard that helps both men and women recover from the experience of abortion. Web site for more info is (or .org, I can never remember).

The other thing is to help them draw closer to the Lord. He forgives us everything if we repent. Through the forgiveness of Christ, we can forgive ourselves (even if others in our past can't forgive us).

Dear friend ALL prayer is powerful and heard by God.For your friend
many saints may be invoked St.Dymphna is good for emotional issues
St.Jude for desperation,St.Michael Archangel for temptation

O Christ Jesus,
when all is darkness
and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You,
we shall see Your hand,
Your purpose, Your will through all things.

Offering prayers for you and your struggling relative.

"I am simply content to find myself always imperfect, and in this I find my joy. Good deeds count as nothing, if done without love" ~ St. Therese of Lisieux

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive
those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil.

Divine Mercy
Eternal God,
in whom mercy is endless
and the treasury of compassion

  • inexhaustible,
    look kindly upon us
    and increase Your mercy in us,
    that in difficult moments
    we might not despair
    nor become despondent,
    but with great confidence
    submit ourselves to Your holy will,
    which is Love and Mercy itself.

Jesus You brought about Mary Magdalene’s conversion and healing from unholy behaviour. She became one of Your most ardent followers.
Please give Your healing grace to this loved family member who is suffering from the effects of unholy behaviour. Thank You, Jesus

Prayer in Time of Suffering
Behold me, my beloved Jesus,
weighed down under the burden of my trials and sufferings,
I cast myself at Your feet,
that You may renew my strength and my courage,
while I rest here in Your Presence.
Permit me to lay down my cross in Your Sacred Heart,
for only Your infinite goodness can sustain me;
only Your love can help me bear my cross;
only Your powerful hand can lighten its weight.
O Divine King, Jesus,
whose heart is so compassionate to the afflicted,
I wish to live in You;
suffer and die in You.
During my life be to me my model and my support;
At the hour of my death,
be my hope and my refuge.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and your guidance on how to pray for my loved one. It was wonderful to see so many varied and beautiful prayers addressing this need. God bless everyone.

Randi praying for your loved one to overcome their problems

O Lord Jesus Christ, Who, before ascending into heaven, didst promise to send the Holy Ghost to finish Thy work in the souls of Thy Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me, that He may perfect in my soul the work of Thy grace and Thy love.
Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal,
the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Thy divine truth,
the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining Heaven,
the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with Thee, and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation,
the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints,
the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable,
the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God, and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Thy true disciples and animate me in all things with Thy Spirit.
