How to recognize a troll

How to recognize a troll

• He doesn’t care about the truth, he already knows it, he wants to stick it in your back, softly

• He does not care about the interlocutor, unless he is playing his hand

• He always tries to have fun by ridiculing, more or less subtly, his opponents

• He can pretend many things (tolerance, fondness etc.), but sooner or later he reveals himself as a perfect egocentric who, by deception, wants to prevail his opinions: partly for the love of his opinions and partly because he enjoys himself madly fooling others.

• A troll can be found under every flag, it is not because I am a Catholic that I have to look for trolls only among non-Catholics, indeed in my part I have known certain Catholic trolls to make militant atheists pale

Also, usually just joined. Ask odd questions but disappears after ‘stirring the pot’.List as religion some nonsense.

Yes!

Many sign up and five minutes later have already published their first topic, which is already strange and provocative from the title, like: “So, to do like Jesus, we have to go to the local street markets to overturn the stalls?”

There is another type. One who is a member of a forum for a long time and constantly starts inflammatory threads to get other people arguing. And he just sits back and watches the fun while never offering an opinion on the topic he opened.

On the other hand, there are those who insist on “owning the thread,” beating down every opposing opinion, never letting up, never letting go.

Then there are those who are just plain annoying

Remember, if you feed the troll, you must take it home.

This is the worst kind. A wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Also the drive-by poster, starts the thread and you never see him/her post again until the new provocative thread. One that means to provoke people to anger and therefore sin.

The signs I’ve noticed are that they just joined, first of all. Second, they have an absurd username which is meant to deny something obviously true, or propose something outrageous and patently false.

They also put some sort of rant or other outrageous thing in the “Religion” field. Kind of like the poster above me. How about that?

Why did I read this as geocentrist?

Sattelites don’t exist, but satellites do. Spelling is key.

Just look at the moon.

It’s a natural satellite of the earth.

And they often have difficulties with spelling.

I don’t think you should waste your time. When someone makes up their minds to accept something unscientific, they have also made up their mind to reject logical proofs and facts. Therefore, any attempt at fruitful discussion will be futile as the person being debated has consciously and deliberately chosen to reject scientific evidence-which makes it impossible to have a debate at all, because the sole means with which you can normally convince people (scientific proof) has been rejected.

It’s best not to engage. No debate can happen when one side chooses to ignore logic and reject evidence as they see fit. And you shouldn’t trouble yourself with such debates anyways.

It kind of makes you wonder sometimes why they post on a Catholic site when they would be better off on a political, scientific, Evangelical or philosophical Forum. Often, their topics have nothing to do with Catholicism.

I see what you did there.

You’re trying to give us a very good example of trolling aren’t you?

I’d rather discuss “Magnets, how do they work?”

A very attractive topic.
