How to resist sedevacantism?

#1

Well, I have the tendencies.
Any advice from ex-sedevacantist on how to ressist it?

#2

I’ve never been a sede, but for me, it’s pretty straightforward: you trust Jesus himself that the gates of hell will not prevail against his Church OR you take the word of someone who thinks they have a better idea and the Church has indeed fallen.

#3

Yea, that one promises keeps me away from being a sede’.
Anyway, can someone here define and defend the papal infallibility doctrine? That is the one doctrine that spawns lots of problems from a sede’.

#4

A sedevacantist is someone who believes that the office of pope is vacant. It has really nothing to do with the papal infallibility doctrine, there were disagreements about who was pope for many centuries before the first Vatican council

#5

Well most sede’s said that if the pope is wrong, then his authority will be lost.
From what I know ,the papal infalibility only applies on the pope’s teaching authority.
I want to know what should be our response in case we ever get (hopefully never) a scandalous pope that contradicts previous teaching…

#6

Hmm , why not just worry about growing your faith and your Christian life in the sacraments

@Baguette

Jeremiah 3:15 I will give you shepherds (Popes) after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.

APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION Eph 2:20; Acts 1:2, Jn 6:70; Mt 16:18; Mt 10:1-5; Rev. 21:14…the Church is built on the foundation of the apostles which Christ chose

CHURCH & AUTHORITY Acts 2:42… doctrine, community, sacred rite (bread). Eph 5:25-26… Christ loved the Church. 1 Tim 3:15… church is pillar/foundation of truth. Mt 16:19 … whatever you bind on earth is bound in Heaven, and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven. Mt 18:17-18… church as final authority. Jn 20:23… If you forgive; the sins of any, they are forgiven, if you retain them, they are retained

2 Timothy 2:2 and what you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people (Church, Popes) who will be able to teach others as well.

2 Timothy 2:13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.

The doctrine as I learned it with regard to the pope, states that the pope is infallible when speaking ex cathedra, from the chair of Peter, to all Catholics, on maters of faith and morals and states that he is speaking ex cathedra. The last time that was evoked was when Pius XII proclaimed the doctrine of the Assumption of Mary into heaven in the 1950’s.

#9

The Holy Spirit will prevent that from happening!

#10

Baguette,

The Holy Spirit guides the church and knows that for the church to be One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic there has to be someone who
can make an infallible judgment. If not, we would splinter into many pieces as the Protestants have.

Read ‘The Sedevacantist Delusion’ by John C. Pontrello:

Or read James Larson’s ‘War against the Papacy’, which you can read for free on his website:

Yes, stay away from their websites and newsletters.

#13

So, how didn’t Peter lose his authority when he denied Christ/told Him that the Passion was unnessecary?

#14

One thing is to avoid reactionary, alarmist websites like LifeSite News, Church Militant, One Peter Five, and AKA Catholic. If you read these types of sites and they cause you nothing but worry and frustration with the Church, then stop reading them. I used to read them and the tone is so negative that I just stopped, and instead focus my efforts on praying for the Holy Father.

#15

Imagine the threat to your faith when there were three men all claiming to be Pope! The sedes have just as much authority to declare their off the edge of the plant beliefs as the reformers did.

Ask any Orthodox. Ask any Protestant: Who is the Pope? All know - even if they reject his office. The whole world knows!

IMO, the sedes are cousins of the black helicopter fearing, bunker mentality lunatic fringe. I would almost expect to see them at bigfoot or alien abduction conventions.

Not that I go to those (cough cough).

From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.
Matthew 16:21-23

Peter was under no duress here.

Where is your source for this asseryion?

#20

Never cited this. Strawman.

What does that even mean? Peter denied the will of the man he called the Messiah…

Affirmative.

Valid.

However, Our Lord saw past Peter’s willing denial and still made him the Vicar of His Church, yes?
