I confess...

The Confiteor

I confess to Almighty God, to blessed Mary ever Virgin, to blessed Micheal the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy apostles, Peter and Paul, and to all the saints, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word and deed, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grevious fault. Therefore, I beseech blessed Mary ever Virgin, blessed Micheal the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy apostles, Peter and Paul, and all the saints, to pray to the Lord our God for me.

I love this! always have! I put this here because it is wonderful, and it is part of the Mass is it not?

Pax tecum!

Yes, it is part of the Mass. However, the one you posted is the one from the Tridentine Rite. The Novus Ordo (current Mass) has a slightly different one and so does, for example, the Dominican Rite. The Confiteor in the old Sarum Rite (used in medieval England) also had a slightly different one.

In Christ,
Rand

While I like the idea of asking the saints and angels and saints to pray for us, I like the NO adding ‘and you here present’ as well

Communion of the saints of the Church Militant and the saints of the Church Triumphant, boo-yeah!

Of course the addition of ‘in what I have done *and in what I have failed to do’ *is also a bonus - reminds us that we can sin through omission.

Here is how I said it when I served our TLM today:
Confiteor Deo omnipotenti, beatae Mariae semper Virgini, beato Michaeli Archangelo, beato Joanni Baptistae, sanctis Apostolis Petro et Paulo, omnibus Sanctis, et tibi pater: quia peccavi nimis cogitatione verbo, et opere: mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. Ideo precor beatam Mariam semper Virginem, beatum Michaelem Archangelum, beatum Joannem Baptistam, sanctos Apostolos Petrum et Paulum, omnes Sanctos, et te pater, orare pro me ad Dominum Deum Nostrum.

Those following along in English saw:
I confess to Almighty God, to blessed Mary ever Virgin, to blessed Micheal the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy apostles, Peter and Paul, all the saints, and to you, Father, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word and deed, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grevious fault. Therefore, I beseech blessed Mary ever Virgin, blessed Micheal the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy apostles, Peter and Paul, all the saints, and you, Father, to pray to the Lord our God for me.

I say the confiteor without the et tibi pater and et te pater as part of my bedtime prayers.
