I missed Mass.

My church is almost ten miles away and as we normally go to the vigil Mass we couldn’t last night as the roads were shut. The only way would have been to walk across ten miles of people’s gardens.

This morning it just didn’t occur to me when I woke up and made breakfast for the children etc.

When I realised it was too late.

Have I committed a mortal sin?

I have tomorrow off, should I go to Mass tomorrow morning?

This was unintentional and beyond your control, so you did not commit a mortal sin.

Wouldn’t that have been trespassing?

As Father Serpa said in reply to a similar question recently, God does not expect the impossible.
