I need your prayers...faith life flagging

I haven’t posted on CAF for a long time. After RCIA I had this great period of a developing faith life. A real breakthrough. The last few months I’ve grown complacent and I sense I’m losing the fire. I feel alone and lost. The breaking point has been the realization that I cannot shake a porn addiction on my own. Only God’s grace can save me. I’m ashamed to even go to the confessional as I keep failing. I’m helpless on my own. I was suffering materially bit rich spiritual only a year ago. As things have turned for me materially I’m suffering spiritually. Sorry if this is rambling but I just need your prayers and support right now.

There are Catholic websites dedicated to helping those who struggle with porn addictions. All you can do is honestly pray. Fight your temptations as best as you can. I will be honest and say I have never walked a mile in your shoes. Do not browse the internet for so long. Keep yourself busy and distracted as best as you can. Do not feel too bad about yourself, we all have areas we are suffering or struggle with.

Lord, I ask You to meet Thomas in this addiction.
As he has committed to finding the wounds that made him vulnerable to addiction,
I ask that You come alongside and carry the overwhelming part of this load.
In particular, I ask that You control one craving or the other;
either the emotional craving or the physical craving.
Lord; stand between, so they both are not allowed to arrive at the same time.
Strengthen his spirit to do the hard work of healing; of identifying the structures
and patterns that led to this point.
Help him to forgive the ones he needs to forgive
and receive the forgiveness he needs to receive.

Guide us who are his friends so that we may support without encouraging dependency. Help
us be the church to this one and to be family and friends through whom You can bring him to
the measure of the fullness of the stature of Christ that You designed him to be.
Grant him the wisdom to know when to ask for help and to know when he doesn’t truly need it.
I ask You to minister to the fear, the loneliness and the insecurity.
Speak the truth to his spirit when he feels a weakening.
I ask that Your holy angels go with him; protect and secure each step of progress.
Thank You for walking through the Valley of the Shadow of Death with Thomas
Help him build new structures and practices that glorify You.

As one who has suffered from porn addiction,
I pray that Thomas can escape his desire for
MORE porn by turning him OFF from desiring
this potent evil and seek more CONSTRUCTIVE
things to do w/ his time, in Jesus’ Love, GLam.

Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as
we forgive those who trespass against us,
(forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors)

Fight the good fight! Do not be afraid to use the confessional! The Lord is with you in this battle. We can do nothing without Him. The risen Jesus comes to you personally in the Eucharist.

I recommend keeping yourself busy… and keeping away from the things that trigger you to seek porn. As soon as the idea occurs to you, go do something else, or get away from the computer. Be consistent in this. Find other things to focus your attention on. Often these sins occur when we have a gap in our life that needs filling or excess time on our hands.

Please, never be too ashamed to approach the confessional… this is what it’s there for.
Isaiah 1:18 Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
Remember that God is rich in mercy, and always ready to forgive us …forgiving ourselves is much more difficult.

We have to keep on trying, and put all our trust in God. You’re not failing… you only fail if you quit trying. Every success has a trail of failures behind it. It helps if you try and make prayer a part of every moment of your day, too.

Also, love covers a multitude of sins, so try to focus on increasing your love and charity towards others. I will pray for you.

Don’t give up! Research has shown that it takes an average of four attempts to quit an alcohol addiction, and porn is worse than alcohol (:(). So persevere, pray, and get up when you fall!
