I am a 16 year old High School student, and my parents and I are starting to discus my future. But I really think God wants me to be a priest. There has just always been something about the Priesthood that has always attracted my attention, and I really do not ever seeing myself in a marriage. Whenever I think of being a priest it just seems right. I have told my parents that this is where I think God may be leading me, and they were fine with it. However now that I think I may have a calling (and have been having one for awhile now) what should I do? I have been praying, but should I try to contact my parish priest or is it too early yet? I really want someone who I can talk to about this, since this is a very serious life choice. I want to make sure this is truly what God wants me to do. Any advice to how I should approach this would be much appreciated. Thank you, and have a great day!
There may be a pre-seminary group in your area. You could contact a local Catholic boys high school and ask, or a priest may know.
The only Catholic School in my area is across the street from where I go to school, and is for both boys and girls, they may have pre-seminary though, I will have to ask. I will however mention this to my parish priest, that is if I can get ahold of him.
The pre-seminary groups are sometimes part of schools, often not.
Approach your Priest and ask if there is a “come and see” weekend at a local seminary. I’m not sure where you live, but these are common in Canada, so they must be in the United States as well. Every Sunday we say a prayer for vocations and I will keep you in mind!
Ah okay, well I will for sure talk to my priest at least, maybe he can suggest some programs.
The closest seminary to me is 45 minutes away so I am not sure if I will be able to do a “come and see” however that sounds like something I really would love to do sometime when I am able to. I for sure will talk to my parish priest though to see if there is anything he can suggest to me. Thank you for your support!
Tyler: I am 18, and also discerning the priesthood. Try looking under the “Catholic Living” sub forum in the Vocations section, there’s some good info there! Go into your journey with an open mind and lots of prayer. God bless
Oh great thanks for the suggestion! I will for sure take a look! God bless, and good luck.
Okay guys, so I did not realize there was a vocations section so I am really sorry. However I reposted this under that section of the forms, so if you would like to check it out here is the link: forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?p=11765047#post11765047
Seminary is college, in a way, so make sure to keep your grades up in high school. Also, take a language course ( Spanish or Latin ). Here in Florida priests must be able to offer all the sacraments in English and Spanish.
