Illinois: Land of Lincoln, land of $13 billion debt, land of pay raises. Well... pay raises if you work for the Governor.
Making a lot of noise about 'shared sacrifice", Democrat Governor Pat Quinn has given 43 salary increases to 35 staffers in the past 15 months. Former senior adviser to Quinn, the current Budget Director David Vaught received a 20% raise to bring his pay to $144,000 when promoted to his new position.
Half of the raises are the result of promotion or a change in job title, Quinn spokeswoman Marlena Jentz said. But others were reported as 'salary adjustments," such as a 10.4% raise for deputy budget director Gladyse Taylor, to $110,000.
