Im an uncle.

I am an Uncle. My sister-in-law gave birth to two healthy boys. Kevin And Evan, on December 15, 2004. Yea! I got a question though…

She had a C-Section, is that ok? Also she had an epaldural (Sp?), is that ok?

Thanks.

Congrats!
As for your question a c-section just means for what ever reason she couldn’t have a vaginal delivery. Happens all the time. As for the epidural that was so she didn’t feel it when they made the incision during the c-section. Women also have epidural during a regular delivery as pain relief from contractions and delivery. It pretty much numbs the lower half of your body. (It’s a shot in the spine - aren’t you glad you were born a male. )

Opps…
I meant is it OK with the Church, or in line with church teachings.

Absolutely. The Church has nothing against modern medicine (in this case, the epidural), and sometimes C-sections are necessary to save the lives of either mother, child, or both, or even just to lessen complications from birth (especially if it is a multiple birth). Think of it as a pro-life procedure.

Congratulations! What a Christmas present for your family.

I was 14 when I became an aunt for the 1st time. I remember what fun it was to have all these baby neices and nephews around when I was still a kid myself. I had lots of baby sitting jobs.

Congrats on becoming and uncle and best of luck to the new family. Twins! Wow, that is awesome.

btw-My oldest nephew is almost 30 years old. Phew, time sure does fly.

Congrats! My sister-in-law is due to have her child on the 23rd… It should be anyday now. This is number three so they found out what they where having (they waited the first two)… It is a girl, and she will be named Lucy, after Saint Lucy… We where hoping she would have been born on Monday on Saint Lucy’s feast day, oh well… I just can’t wait to see her!

Ryan,
That is super! :clapping: :dancing:

But?
You are a twin,
Your nephews are twins.
I would say this Ryan, get ready. When you are married, YOU could have twins!

Once again, what a cool Christmas present you received early!

Go with God!
Edwin

Thanks to all!!

They were about 6 pounds each, but that was a week ago. Im happy their here. Thanks for the info on those procedures. But I saw that I spelled their name wrong. It’s Kevan and Evan. I wonder if those are saint names?

The procedures themselves are not moral or immoral per se. If the person getting the Epidural did it because they wanted to watch soap operas…then, no it probably wouldn’t be moral. However, if their was true medical necessity for managing the woman’s labor and she is at least somehwat aware of the risks then it would be appropriate.

As to the c-section the same things can apply. They can also apply to the doctor. (i.e. if he knows it wasn’t medically necessary but did it anyway to keep his golf tee time).

I hope this helps.

Under the Mercy,

Matthew Sauer

Father to three girls.
1- Hospital Epidural
2- Unplanned Homebirth
3- Planned Homebirth
All 3 are the biggest blessings to my life that God has given me.
