We ask for your mercy and healing on behalf of supermario in his time of need. Lord, we know that you love us unconditionally, and it is never too late for any of us to get focused on following the ways of your loving son Jesus who called us to love others as he has loved us. As we reflect on the love our Lord has for us, it becomes very obvious to us why we must turn away from all things that degrade and defame your people including pornography, self gratification in all its forms when these acts separate us from the love of Jesus, and other behaviors that are not life giving to your people or to us as individuals. Lord, please send your warm and comforting Holy Spirit to be with supermario and grant him strength, courage, strong faith, and hope in You. Help him to overcome his sinful habits through the beauty of the sacraments, especially reconciliation and then Holy Eucharist. Help our friend to find new and positive ways of focusing his thoughts and energy to help your people and to focus on continuing his personal formation and development. Help him to find and make new habits to replace these detrimental ones, and grant him the discernment to move forward on his journey of faith by following the path you have chosen especially for him.
Lord, we also lift up Psalm 51 and a special prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours for our friend in his situation and need for change in his life:
Have mercy on me, God, in your goodness;
in your abundant compassion blot out my offense.
Wash away all my guilt, from my sin cleanse me.
For I know my offense, my sin is always before me.
Against you alone have I sinned; I have done such evil in your sight
That you are just in your sentence, blameless when you condemn.
True, I was born guilty, a sinner, even as my mother conceived me.
Still, you insist on sincerity of heart;
in my inmost being teach me wisdom.
Cleanse me with hyssop, that I may be pure;
wash me, make me whiter than snow.
Let me hear sounds of joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Turn away your face from my sins; blot out all my guilt.
A clean heart create for me, God; renew in me a steadfast spirit.
Do not drive me from your presence, nor take from me your holy spirit.
Restore my joy in your salvation; sustain in me a willing spirit.
I will teach the wicked your ways, that sinners may return to you.
Rescue me from death, God, my saving God,
that my tongue may praise your healing power.
Lord, open my lips; my mouth will proclaim your praise.
For you do not desire sacrifice; a burnt offering you would not accept.
My sacrifice, God, is a broken spirit;
God, do not spurn a broken, humbled heart.
Make Zion prosper in your good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
Then you will be pleased with proper sacrifice, burnt offerings and
holocausts; then bullocks will be offered on your altar.
Father, he who knew no sin was made sin for us,
to save us and restore us to your friendship.
Look upon our contrite heart and afflicted spirit
and heal our troubled conscience,
so that in the joy and strength of the Holy Spirit
we may proclaim your praise and glory before all the nations.
Lord, wash away my guilt, alleluia.
We pray in the name of your beloved son Jesus, who is our Lord and Savior yesterday, today, and for all eternity.
