This happened because of the kinks they were ironing out in the first couple weeks of the new forum.
In the old CAF, “In the News” was the parent category with the “World News” and “Catholic News” being the sub-categories. However, “In the News” was never a category that people could post separate topics in. It was locked as a category in its own right.
When they first made the transition, the “In the News” category was not locked as it was previously, so people could post new topics in this category without having instead to put it either in “World News” or “Catholic News”. This was (apparently) caught around September 18th as that is when the most recent topics are dated.
Note, the same thing happened with “Catholic Living”, but they seem to have just allowed it to remain unlocked even though it was locked in the previous incarnation of CAF. Apologetics was always unlocked, even in the old system.
So I’m not sure anything can be done except to delete those handful of threads. It does make it a bit awkward seeing as anyone who clicks on the “In the News” category will perpetually be greeted by news stories from September 2017.
