Ireland consecrated to Our Lady today, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Bishops, priests and people from across the country are at Knock Shrine today as Cardinal Seán Brady, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, leads the Act of Consecration during the annual Novena to Our Lady of Knock.

The two-year campaign for the consecration has involved 13.5 million rosaries being prayed for the Irish bishops as part of a National Rosary Rally and the group has organised supportive letters to be sent to the Irish bishops.

It was arranged prior to the news of Pope Francis consecrating the world to Our Lady.

Knock story:

Papal story:

Good idea. Ireland needs Our Lady’s intercession now more than ever. Ireland and the world could stand a reminder about the need for it too.

I had the privilege of being in attendance with some of my family, an historical day for the Church in Ireland. Our Lady of Knock, pray for us! :gopray2:

Thanks for the video link.

Let’s pray what occurred in Portugal, after it was consecrated in 1931, also happens in Ireland.

Thank God. :shamrock2: Not a moment too soon.:irish1:

Has Ireland ever been consecrated to Mary?

This link has a helpful Q and A about the event.

*Hasn’t Ireland already been consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary?

No. The Confederation of bishops of Kilkenny consecrated Ireland to the Immaculate Conception in honour of Our Lady’s purity in 1653. Although consecration to the Immaculate conception of Mary as later affirmed by our Lady’s visit to Lourdes in 1858 would surely have its own benefits, in 1917 in response to the spread of modern errors Our Lady of Fatima specifically requested fallen away countries be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart to benefit from her maternal intercession with God. This remains to be accomplished in Ireland and her spiritual light is dimming all the time…

You’re welcome!

The Prayer of Consecration:

Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Refuge of Sinners, we entrust and consecrate ourselves, our family, our home, our Dioceses and Ireland our Country to Jesus through your Immaculate Heart. As your children, we promise to follow your example in our lives by doing at all times the will of God.

O Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, we renew today the promises of our Baptism and Confirmation. Intercede for us with the Holy Spirit that we may be always faithful to your Divine Son, to his Mystical Body, the Catholic Church, and to the teachings of his Vicar on earth, our Holy Father the Pope.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Queen and our Mother, we promise to uphold the sanctity of marriage and the welfare of the family. Watch over our minds and hearts and preserve our youth from dangers to the faith and the many temptations that threaten them in the world today.

We ask you, Mary our Advocate to intercede with your divine Son. Obtain for our country the grace to uphold the uniqueness of every human life, from the first moment of conception to natural death.

O Blessed Mother, Our Life, our Sweetness and Our Hope, we wish that this Consecration be for the great glory of God and that it lead us safely to Jesus your Son.

A Naomh-Mhuire, a Mháthair Dé, guigh orainn na peacaigh, anois agus ar uair ár mbáis.

Amen.
