Is it okay to bless someone's home without his knowledge?

A family member is living a very sinful life. We thought it may be helpful to bring holy water to sprinkle in his home. He would not consent to this if he knew. Is this permissible?

Strictly speaking, I can’t recommend doing something in someone else’s home that you know that person would be upset about if he found out that you had done it. However, I can sympathize with your desire to leave a sacramental in the home of someone in need of conversion.

Instead of sprinkling water in this person’s home – which can be messy and difficult to explain away if you get caught – perhaps you could tuck a green scapular into a place in the home where, if found, the homeowner will presume that it had been innocently lost during a visit.
