Is priestly celibacy a dogma of the faith?

I have heard that married clergy was the rule during the first thousand years of Church history. This leaves me confused and wondering. Please help!

Priestly celibacy is a disciplinary rule, not a doctrine or dogma of the faith. As such, it can (and has been) changed over time.
