Is profane music a sin?

A friend who is concerned about the subject asked me this question: If you listen to music that has profanity in it, is that a sin, and do you go to hell for it?

Imperfect music falls under the same category as imperfect work in other entertainment mediums:

Is profanity a mortal sin?
Can I watch imperfect movies?

May I watch Ellen DeGeneres’s TV show?

[quote=PMV][D]o you go to hell for it?

One only goes to hell for unrepented mortal sin. Mortal sin requires grave matter, full knowledge, and full and free consent of the will; if any of the conditions are missing, there is not a mortal sin (cf. CCC 1857).
