I know that both the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church are the first Christian churches, just that both have different authorities because of the schism, but they have almost the same teachings.
Although they are both the first churches, can you say that the Roman Catholic Church is the "original" of the two, since the Eastern Orthodox Church doesn't recognize the authority of the Pope, the bishop of Rome and the head of the Roman Catholic Church, which is said to originate from Saint Simon Peter in which Jesus Christ himself appointed the said Saint to build the church?
I want to hear the opinions of both Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox faithfuls here. Thanks! :)
Its the wrong question.
You should ask if the Catholic Church (not the Roman Catholic Church) is the original and only true Church. The answer to that is yes. The Catholic Church comprises the Latin Church and the Eastern Catholic Churches. The Orthodox Church is simply a schismatic part of the Catholic Church.
