Is there a one-volume history of the Catholic Church?

I am looking for a good one volume history of the Catholic Church. I am not looking for an overview or something brief. Most books I have seen seem to be written by people who really have axes to grind (i.e., they are either extremely critical [anti-Catholic] or dogmatically defensive). Is there a good, scholarly evenhanded work on the history of the Catholic Church?

Although it can, at times, include biting commentary on non-Catholics and their relationship with the Church, the best one-volume comprehensive history of the Church currently available is Triumph: The Power and the Glory of the Catholic Church by H. W. Crocker III.
