Greetings; EWTN on a daily basis re-broadcasts the Mass and Benediction. Is there any benefit for the viewer other than hearing the Homily? Just curious. Thanks Much. Peace. Sincerely, Chuck Clifford
If prayer is the raising of one’s mind and heart to God, then praying along with a video or audio tape of the Mass is beneficial. It’s not the same as actually being physically present in the chapel in Irondale, Alabama at the time the Mass is actually celebrated, certainly. But one hears the Liturgy of the Word as well as the homily and can be greatly affected by the Liturgy of the Eucharist—which is the greatest event that takes place on the face of the earth. How did viewers benefit from watching the tv coverage of September 11th and re-watching the planes hitting the buildings? What did they get out of it? How were they affected?
Viewing such events does indeed affect us for good or ill. We fill our minds with so much garbage from the media day after day. Why not fill our minds with the glory of the Mass! God can do great things with us—even through the use of video and audio tape!
Hearing others pray can help us to pray—and that’s a good thing!
