Is this why the demons rebelled?


The angels could not have been tested about worshipping the sacred humanity of our Lord because then they would have known the messiah was God. And they didn’t know this until His death.
I’m thinking but it’s only theory that the angels were shown a vision of 2 lowly humans ( much inferior to them ) of what would be their king and queen - Jesus and Mary. I think some rebelled at the thought of having lowly humans in charge of them. Especially Lucifer who was the greatest angel and he thought he should be king, not lowly men.

The angels rebelled out of pride. Their mortal sin is irrevokable because of the knowledge of God they had. (Full knowledge is one of the conditions of mortal sin, and the angels had superhuman knowledge of God)


John Russell Jr…that’s pretty much what the nuns taught us in school. But I also learned that Lucifer thought he was more powerful than God and he wanted to be God.


Listen, I was told that God already had his angels who were in full obedience to him, but jesus decided he wanted God to make humans with free will so that they could see what good or not they would do. Satan at the time said “No don’t give them free will because they will be able to do evil things.” But God favoured Jesus’s idea. So he went ahead and made humans with free will. He made them and put them in a garden to be with him. And unfortunately with their free will they did do evil…
So because of that Satan spends all of his time accusing us for our wrong doings and saying “I told you so.” to God. But Jesus loved the idea that even though we could do evil, when we did do good it was full glory to God because they did that too out of free will! So then it is like saying “I told you so.” to the devil who in turn has to hide his face since he is eternally trying to prove that Jesus’s idea was wrong because no one should be able to do free will. He wants us trapped and that is why he keeps accusing us and reminding us of our wrongs, so that he can try to laugh in Jesus’s face and let us think that we are unworthy of Gods presence again… This is not true, God wants his children and believe me, nothing is too powerfull enough to pull Gods children away from him. Not forever anyway.

I believe that it was due to Lucifer wanting to be God. He wanted to be over God. He rebelled out of pride and many of the Angels joined him. That’s why there is evil in the world. The first sin was one of pride. When Adam and Eve sinned, it was also because of pride. They were told that if they ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil then they would be like God. Pride. Plain and probably not so simple.


Interesting idea, except that Lucifer and the other angels had free will as well…but maybe that is why he believed the humans would do evil, as having free will himself, may have known temptation.

I kind of think it would not be Jesus having an idea and discussing it with God…as they are one person. I know the Trinity actually is three seperate persons in one God, but not to the extent that you could actually have a discussion with yourself. I guess in Heaven all will become clear.


Your idea seems to come out straight from the LDS doctrines. Seems like the one mormons believe in this short film.

"83. The angels were created in the empyrean heavens and in the state of grace by which they might be first to merit the reward of glory. For although they were in the midst of glory, the Divinity itself was not to be made manifest to them face to face and unveiled, until they should have merited such a favor by obeying the divine will. The holy angels, as well as the bad ones, remained only a very short time in the state of probation; for their creation and probation with its result were three distinct instants or moments, separated by short intermissions. In the first instant they were all created and endowed with graces and gifts, coming into existence as most beautiful and perfect creatures. Then followed a short pause, during which the will of the Creator was propounded and intimated, and the law and command was given them, to acknowledge Him as their Maker and supreme Lord, and to fulfill the end for which they had been created. During this pause, instant or interval, Saint Michael and his angels fought that great battle with the dragon and his followers, which is described by the apostle Saint John in the twelfth chapter of the Apocalypse. The good angels, persevering in grace, merited eternal happiness and the disobedient ones, rebelling against God, merited the punishment, which they now suffer.

What will become of human frailty, if the divine power does not defend it and if it forces God to forsake it ?

  2. It remains to investigate the motive, which urged Lucifer and his confederates to sin and what was the occasion of their disobedience and fall, for this is the point to which I wanted to come. In regard to this, it was made known to me that they could commit many sins as far as the guilt of sin (secundum reatum) is concerned, although they did not consummate them in acts. However, on account of those which they did actually commit freely and of their own depraved will, they acquired the disposition to all bad acts, inducing others to commit and approving in others those sins, which they could not commit themselves. Following the bad inclinations which from that time on filled Lucifer, he fell into a most disorderly selflove, which arose from the consciousness of being endowed with greater gifts and greater beauty of nature and grace, than the other inferior angels. He tarried with inordinate pleasure in this consciousness; and thus self-satisfied he became lax and remiss in the gratitude, which was due to God as the sole cause of all that he had received. Turning again and again in admiration toward himself, he took pleasure in his own beauty and grace, attributing them to himself and loving them as his own. This disorderly selflove not only caused him to exalt himself on account of the superior virtues, which he had received, but also induced him to harbor envy and covetousness for other gifts and for excellences not his own. Then, because he could not attain them, he conceived a mortal hatred and indignation against God, who created him out of nothing, and against all his creatures.

And this Woman, Mother of the Word, I will hurl from the position in which Thou hast proposed to place Her, and at my hands, the plan, which Thou settest up, shall come to naught.”

This proud boast so aroused the indignation of the Lord that in order to humble it, He spoke to Lucifer: “This Woman, whom thou refusest to honor, shall crush thy head and by Her shalt thou be vanquished and annihilated (Gen. 3, 15). And if, through thy pride, death enters into the world (Wis. 2, 24), life and salvation of mortals shall enter through the humility of this Woman. Those that are of the nature and likeness of that Man and Woman, shall enjoy the gifts and the crowns, which thou and thy followers have lost.” To all this the dragon, filled with indignation against what ever he understood of the divine will and decrees, answered only with pride and by threatening destruction to the whole human race. It’s just speculation but I’ve considered that pride could’ve actually been born of fear/mistrust. It’s a frightening prospect to contemplate the fact that ones very existence depends on another being who could wipe us out with a whim. Perhaps it was easier for Lucifer to create the first lie-that he didn’t need God in order to exist; IOW that he was equal to or greater than God-rather than to live with the truth. In any case I believe that pride and fear are somehow opposite sides of the same coin.

I’m a bit confused about this. Didn’t the angel who told Mary she would have Jesus, and appeared to Joseph in a dream, know about Jesus being the Messiah before his death?


It’s also entirely possible that the god of the old testament is not God at all, but more of a ‘mafia Don’.
He’s certainly presented that way by the ancient Hebrews.

That puts what we call fallen angels and loyal angels into an entirely different light.

(My own take, however, is that YHWH is entirely created out of the mythological imagination of the ancient Hebrews).

Each of the fallen angels has its particular sins, and these particular sins are its focus now, just as they were then when they preferred these sins to God.

Thus there are spirits of jealousy, envy, greed, etc. Each demon has its particular faults.

Also, I have heard that the good angels, to the extent and strength of will which with they cleaved to God in the beginning, they gained merit, and grace that raised them up higher than their natural states. :slight_smile:

The fallen angels left empty spaces in the celestial hierarchy… the saints shall fill these places. Thus the fallen angels hate us the more.



I like what your saying, it makes perfect sense. But I just thought that if we (humans) are being tempted by evil and demons, then we are being unfairly trialed on Earth because if we are being teased and annoyed by satan all day long then we are not really having free will are we? It’s kind of cruel isn’t it. If you put a dog in a cage and poke it all day long then the chances are that the dog will turn vicious right?:confused:


I understand how you feel! I know what it means to be badgered and pestered.

But, these devils only have power over us due to our separation from God. If we love God and think only of God sufficiently, and prefer God to our sins, they cannot harm our souls or distract us to sin – and any suffering we endure is our glory in Heaven rather than to any loss.

It really is our sinfulness at fault. When we’re weak to the attacks it shows a flaw in our own selves that has to be overcome, it is good that we find out what the flaw is rather than being surprised by it later on, or live in the sin on our own.

Since our purpose in this life is to be put to the test and show how much we love God or not, the devils’ attacks, against their will, can raise our place in Heaven. :slight_smile:
