It's the Most Stressful Time of the Year

You know that song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”? It usually comes on the store’s P.A. system when I’m feeling harried and frazzled and trying to get my Christmas shopping done. So I made up my own version of it:

It’s the most stressful time of the year:
the mall’s overheated, by crowds you’re defeated,
you’re waiting in lines–
It’s the most stressful time of the year.

It’s the most maddening time of the year.
The children are tired, they’re cranky and wired,
they’re starting to scream.
It’s the most stressful time of the year.

You’ve circled the lot for at least half an hour,
you can’t find a parking place.
One’s going to be open, you pull up there hopin’
and somebody else takes your space.

It’s the most nerve-wracking season of all.
Your neighbor’s display lights
are keeping you up nights,
his music’s too loud.
It’s the most stressful time of the year.

Your kid wants a toy that is sold out already,
you can’t find it though you try.
Your credit card’s maxed out, and so is your checkbook,
you’ve sixteen more presents to buy.

It’s the most stressful time of the year.
It’s your turn for hosting,
the turkey’s not roasting,
the oven just died.
It’s the most maddening time,
it’s the most nerve-wracking time,
it’s the most stressful time of the year!

Have you ever heard Bob Rivers’ parody, “It’s the Most Fattening Time of the Year?” That’s more like it for me…
