I've forgotten the Creeds

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a long time and I am getting back into Catholicism. I find I am quite rusty and have forgotten the words of both the Apostle and Nicine Creeds. Is there an online source that i can use to relearn? Also can someone tell me about the signifiance of First Friday Mass, adoration and benediction? Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome home. You can go to : www.ewtn.com. For the Apostles Creed you can click on faith, scroll down toThe Rosary and click on it.There is a lot of info on their web site plus you can watch Catholic programs on your computer.May our Lord Bless you.

The English translation of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds have actually been recently updated, along with the rest of the Roman Missal, to be more faithful to the official Latin… Although, the new translation has not yet been put into effect, so we are still using the older translations.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of the old and new translations for parts of the Order of Mass. Scroll down a bit and it will have both creeds.

At least for the next year or two, we are still using the translation on the left.

We have been attending First Friday Mass and benediction for about a year now. The Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus were given to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in about 1673. For those who attend Mass and confession for nine First Fridays:

  1. “I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.”
  2. “I will establish peace in their homes.”
  3. “I will comfort them in their afflictions.”
  4. “I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all in death.”
  5. “I will bestow a large blessing upon all their undertakings.”
  6. “Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and the infinite ocean of mercy.”
  7. “Tepid souls shall grow fervent.”
  8. “Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.”
  9. “I will bless every place where a picture of My Heart shall be set up and honored.”
  10. “I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.”
  11. “Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.”
  12. “I promise thee in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday in nine consecutive months, the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving the Sacraments; My Divine heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.”

Interestingly enough, many secular organizations have picked up on the “First Friday” theme and you’ll now find lots of art shows, shopping specials, and the like on the first friday of the month.
