Jack T. Chick:Anti Catholicism at it's worst

Look at this pack of misdirected lies.

My first thought was, "I could ask the very same question about this guy.

#2

Hate mongers proclaiming their Christianity:rolleyes: This stuff is horrible:banghead: How much time do they have to love God while their busy trying to prove how evil"those Catholics"are?Shame on them, I think an excorcism would do them some good.God Bless

I love these things! They lead to interesting conversations, and with open minded people - they tend to back fire. They tend to be more suspicious of them than Catholic teachings! For the primary reason that they are so imflammatory! But for the weak minded - they are appaling, but that is for them to work out in fear and trembling!

Jack Chick tracts are really garbage. One Halloween, a man down the street gave out these tracts to children. I found it in my daughter’s bag and went back to the man and told him ‘no thank you’ and that he was peddling hate. And this man was supposedly a ‘minister’. Another time I found one about the ‘cookie god’ on my car when I came out of Mass.

This guy is an anti-catholic hate-monger! He’s been doing it for years!

Gotta comment in case anyone doesn’t know: Check out the Catholic Answers tracts on Jack Chick. Very interesting and with a lot less garbage and a lot more sense than a Chick tract.

Lots of comments about this tract come to mind. But I won’t say a thing. No point at all. And I’ll even try not to get cross about it!

I found it interesting, mostly because I like Egyptian mythology. That’s about it… and it was just plain stupid.

And BTW, Osiris was the god of the Dead, Amon-Ra was the god of the Sun.

We have to be careful not to dwell on obvious bigots like Jack Chick at the expense of letting other anti-Catholics off the hook. That is, we sometimes encounter anti-Catholics who point to Jack Chick and say, “Hey, we are not at all like him!”, but slip in similar misrepresentations under a veneer of ecumenicism.

After you read the Catholic Answer’s tract, go to the site dedicated to refuting Jack Chick’s ridiculous tracts:

the depressing thing is those illustrations by Jack Chick are from pre-VII days when catholicism atually had identity and was looked at as a threat. now, we’re usually like any other liberal mainline protestant faith. these pictures would be more accurate:

Oat Soda,
In spite of all the wierd things that people do w/in the church, I also know that there are many more who’re in there doing it right to the very best of their ability. There is no perfect church (by that I mean congregation) because you & I are in it, but there are still lots of good churches out there, good priests and religious, and good Catholics. I just do my best to be one of them (w/varying degrees of success).
My parrish is actually pretty squared away & I really like our pastor. My wife & I just joined RCIA last week & the priest spoke on the Eucharist. Was great. Next week: Confession! :clapping: I also always rely on Jesus’ promise that the gates of hell will not prevail…and I like something that Catholic Evangelist Tom Rutkoski said in one of his books. When asked by a man who asked him to convince him to become a Catholic, Tom told him to go out and find the church that the devil seems to be beatin’ up on the most and join that one because that means it’s the one he hates the most and is trying to destroy because that’s the one that is from God. He goes on to say that about 3 weeks later the guy called him back to say he was joining the Catholic Church. It’s all warfare guys…always was…always will be…but Jesus said “Lo, I am with you always , even to the end of the world.” Okay Lord, I can live with that… :gopray:

Where the heck was this picture taken? Are all these people wanna be priests or what? In our diocese, they are finally implimenting the rules that keep all the people away from the altar at concecration. Maybe goings on like this are the reason why.

Read about how Jack Chick got started. Also find out what audience he has.
He was reduced to selling his comic books to the “bottom of the barrel” Fundamentalist/Evangelical congregations. He is a big hit with the semi-litterate gang. Do not worry about him, he is known as a clown.

My friends,

As an Evangelical Christian, let me help you out a bit here.

First, Jack Chick is a twit. I would never encourage anyone to pay any attention to his stuff. There may somewhere truth in it, but digging through the trash for a few pennies just isn’t worth it.

That being said, Why don’t you for a moment read through this thread and others here in the forums, and ask yourself how an Evangelical would respond to what has been said.

For example, we find here that most Evangelicals are just like Jack Chick, just not as blatantly crude. We find that Evangelicals see Catholics as a threat.

In a poll, Karl asks who is “grabbing” catholics; meaning that no one could possibly voluntarily leave the Church.

You folks state that former Catholics are very angry and vile toward the church, but former Evangelicals are appreciative of those Churches for starting them on the road to the Catholic Church. Yet I can show you a regular poster here that identifies himself in his profile as a former Evangelical and now proud catholic. His M. O. is to ask innocent sounding questions about what Evangelicals think, then when he gets an answer, pounces on those views with a glee that would make Jack Chick glow with pride.

The C A L radio program discusses things in the same way that many of you do here. Catholics “evangelize” Evangelicals; but Evangelicals “distribute anti-Catholic literature”. An intresting point of view, but in practice it is the very same stuff.

You will find here people that know better claiming that Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons are Protestant Denominations. Even the radio program frequently implies that, although it is denied when spicifically asked about it.

Look through these forums. You will see so much anger, hatred, and pride in the belief that you are the “only” true Church that it should make you cry. That of course, would depend on whether or not you really ARE the only true Church.

Where is you love for others? Where is your concern for Evangelicals? Where is your concern for JW’s, rather than just trying to keep them from unsuspecting Catholics? Evangelicals have innumerable ministries that attempt to reach these people for Christ. Where is YOUR concern for them? If there is anything there, More love for such people than we see here should be expected.

Look at these forums with a “critical” mind; you will see that many of YOU are, in fact, “Jack Chicks” yourself.

So, since this is an open forum, you might want to give a little more thought to your work before you push the submit button.

In Christ,

Xenos,

I realize that you may perceive things the way you state in your post, but to be honest w/you all the things that you describe about us is pretty much nothing more than our response to the attacks we’ve been subjected to. I have never attempted to convert a Prot from his church but at least one who attacked my beliefs is now finding his way into the Catholic Church because of our discussions. I do not post on non-Catholic sites out of respect for their beliefs and I know just how it feels to have someone come in here and ask those pointed questions. As I pointed out to MichaelP in a recent post, people w/heavy questions or issues with the Church really should post them on the AAA forum to get the best answers. (BTW I like Mike and he’s a good example of one I like to talk to.) We’re just rank and file types out here and most are still learning. I find it strange that non-Catholics will ask questions on here that have clear answers in the tracts and articles on this home page. That tells me that they may not be honestly seeking answers, but just looking for a scrap and a chance to deride Catholic belief and practice in a misguided effort to lead us away from the Church. To be honest w/you only maybe 2 or 3 people out of all the Prots I know have NOT tried to convert me. :whacky:
I have only seen a very few people that I would consider as hateful and anti-Prot (on here) as JTC is to us. Please don’t mistake passionate love for our faith w/hatred. Forcefully stating the truth in love is simply the best we can do on here.

One question: Why are YOU here?

Xenos,

First of all, I would have to agree with your assesment of Jack Chick. I could think of a much stronger word than “twit”, but I don’t want to get banned so I will keep it to myself.

Second, this may be a subject for a different thread, but yes, we are the ONLY true Church founded by Christ Himself. That has been and always will be the claim of the Catholic Church for the past 2000 years and the next 2000 years as well. Are we saying that Evangelicals are not true Christians? Absolutely not. I know many Evangelicals who are better Christians than some Catholics I know. However, the clown acts don’t run the circus. We can’t look at the actions of members of the different churches to tell us what church is the True Church. We have to look at the facts and the facts all point to the Catholic Church as being founded by Christ.

It is true that being Catholic does breed a sort of arrogance in some people. I wish that we didn’t have so many denominations so there would be no need for anyone to be offended when the Truth is proclaimed. Please bear with us. The time will come when we are all “One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church”

Have a Merry Christmas
Joshua :tiphat:

I am in RCIA. I used to order Jack Chick tracts. I mostly ordered his “This Was Your Life” tract to hand out. But I read all his other tracts, including the anti-Catholic ones.

Earlier this year, I was struggling with the topic of the Holy Eucharist. When I concluded that Jack Chick was wrong, it was a very big step towards my becoming Catholic. Without Jack Chick’s writing, I might not have “come home”.

My Personal Articles of Faith

I am not an educated theologian. I never attended a class at a seminary. I am not a Bible Scholar. In writing these personal articles of faith, I cannot fully rely on sectarian interpretations of Bible passages that seem to some degree to be ambiguous because they are disagreed upon by such men as St. Augustine, Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Bunyan, John Wesley, D. L. Moody, Billy Sunday, Billy Graham or other significant Christians. I must rely on God’s mercy when it comes to deciding controversial topics - because I can easily be wrong. In writing these articles, I can only count on Bible scriptures that are plain and not controversial. And I decide to count on external evidence such as how I see other people live their lives. The scriptural backing for my method of determination is Matthew 7:15-20. The context of Matthew 7:15-20 is set up in Matthew 7:13-14. I’m paraphrasing: The correct way that leads to life is narrow. Those who find it are few. There are many false prophets. And how can I determine the right way if I am lost. If I am a lost sheep, how can I find the Good Shepherd?

1) Eucharist. Jack Chick says the wafer god is an idol and calls Roman Catholics are idolaters (that I.H.S. stands for Egyptian gods Isis, Horus and Seb). John Wesley’s Articles of Faith (article 18) says transubstantiation is “repugnant to the plain words of Scripture”. Yet to me the plain words of scripture do not seem to refute transubstantiation plainly enough. John 6:53-58 has Jesus teaching to eat his body and drink his blood. The ancient Egyptians did not have our current alphabet. I recall seeing the letters I.H.S. on the alter and on a cross when I was a Methodist. An English non-Catholic website explains I.H.S. “They are sometimes explained as the initial letters of Jesus Hominum Salvator, i.e., Jesus Saviour of Men; or as In Hac Salus, i.e., In this (Cross) is Salvation.” … and that "I.H.S. on a headstone signifies that the person buried below is asleep ‘In Jesus.’ " When I recently returned to the church of my childhood, the Methodist Minister celebrated communion and included a prayer of consecration “May these become for us the body of Christ”. I am convinced that there are presently some Methodist church members (at least in my home Church) who do not know their bread and grape juice are only symbolic.

An honest examination of peoples’ lives to make a Matthew chapter 7 determination must be from first-hand information. It cannot be an examination of bad or mediocre people, because bad or mediocre people are everywhere and in every denomination. Instead, the best examination is of the best people who thoroughly follow their Church’s teachings. People who are known to firmly believe the doctrine in question (Holy Eucharist). If the Roman Catholics are correct, Protestants are “separated brethren” and they have some of the truth. If Jack Chick is correct, Roman Catholics are idolaters and a logical conclusion would be that the very best of them cannot bear good fruit.

Fulton Sheen. The Roman Catholic Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s lifelong faithfulness had a very specific focus. Fulton J. Sheen promised God he would make a Holy Hour of Prayer before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament everyday of his life. As I read Archbishop Sheen’s words, I know he has a very deep understanding of God’s word. One of Archbishop Sheen’s faults was that he would take unusual means (newspapers, TV) go to very great lengths to reach others for Christ. As a young New Yorker, I knew he had a column in our newspaper (much the same as Billy Graham). Recently, I have been reading the transcripts of Archbishop Sheen’s telecasts and they have been very helpful. I just finished reading his autobiography “Treasure in Clay”. I cannot see Archbishop Sheen as an idol worshipper. How could Archbishop Sheen’s teachings be so good if at the center core of his being and his faithfulness he was wrong? Read the following Internet content: catholic.net/RCC/Periodicals/Dossier/0910-96/classic.html Note especially “Most remarkable of all was the effect the preaching of the Holy Hour had on non-Catholic ministers.” Including Reverend Jack McAllister, Director of the World Literature Crusade.
