Law 'does not prohibit' sex-selection abortions, DPP warns

The Telegraph:

Law ‘does not prohibit’ sex-selection abortions, DPP warns

Guidance issued by The British Medical Association (BMA) advised doctors that “there may be circumstances, in which termination of pregnancy on grounds of fetal sex would be lawful”.
The disclosure is expected to spark fury among dozens of MPs who have criticised the medical establishment for seeking to redefine abortion laws.

Keir Starmer, the Director of Public Prosecutions, today publishes a detailed memorandum explaining the controversial decision by the Crown Prosecution Service not to prosecute two doctors who agreed to arrange illegal abortions based on the sex of an unborn baby.

Mr Starmer warns that current guidance for doctors needs to be urgently updated amid widespread concern over practices in clinics which do not appear to fall foul of the letter of the law.

The two doctors at the centre of the controversy were exposed by the Telegraph after being secretly filmed offering to abort baby girls, even though this is widely thought to be illegal.

Of course any slightest infringement of abortion rights is part of the “war on women” /sarc.

Seriously, if you are pro-choice or even favor it in limited cases how do you justify this? Are XX chromosomes a birth defect? Maybe they’ll identify the “gay gene” and offer orientation-selection abortions. Let’s see how that flies.

How disgusting.
We pray for an end to abortion…
Lord hear our prayer.
Mary.

Ugh! :(

Lord, have mercy! Amen.

It is known that sex selection abortion mainly targets girls for abortion. Where are the feminists speaking out against this? This is a real war on women.

They are silent because if they dared question some abortions then they must be able to answer how exactly is aborting girls more wrong then aborting boys. And they can’t even go there, since they believe that all abortion is OK.

I’m curious to see if this will cause more people to realise that there is no difference in terms of who is aborted and that is it always wrong.

The feminists are in lockstep with the world socialist movement who’s adjenda will play out in the United Nations and that will institute a system of social engineering that will find a way to allow such things. See what happens when God becomes an ‘outlaw’ in a Marxist athiestic politic…???

I’m a feminist and I’m ok with sex selection abortions because I don’t think that a fetus is morally equivalent to a baby and I have no issue with abortion. It’s none of my business why each woman gets one nor do I care.

I would call this a problem if the government were mandating the abortion of females (for many reasons, actually. Forced abortion is wrong and trying to reduce the female population would also be a sign of a serious problem) but I don’t think it’s a “war on women” when an individual woman or couple decides to abort because they wanted a boy.

I remember reading a case where a couple aborted twin boys because they wanted a girl (they already had three boys and their only daughter had died in infancy). They were trying to use their story as a reason why sex-selective IVF should take place. A sad story because it was clear they needed therapy to deal with their daughter’s loss more than anything. :frowning:

Why is killing a baby because of his/her sex worse than any other reason given for killing a baby?

Peace

Feminist irony. You reap what you sew.

In a few generations they will be demanding women be given 6 votes because 80% of the population are men.

#18

A very logical post.

At what point does a fetus become morally equivalent to a baby?

The irony is that, during my time with the pro-life movement, I’ve noticed that feminists, who are the most vocal and militant agitators for abortion, conversely decry gender-based abortions and invented a term (“gendercide”) to go along with it. Yet, if any legislator dared to move against gender as a catalyst abortion, Orwellian double-think kicks in and they revert right back to invoking the war on women. Let them stew in their own hypocrisy.
