**Leading Tory defects to Remain over ‘hate and xenophobia’
Leading Conservative parliamentarian Baroness Warsi has told The Times newspaper that she is defecting to Remain from the Leave campaign group, accusing Brexit campaigners of peddling “complete lies”.
She told the paper that she was defecting in “protest” at the “hate and xenophobia” of the campaign.
She said she was moved to defect after seeing Nigel Farage’s “Breaking Point” poster on Sunday, saying the poster was “the breaking point to say ‘I can’t go on supporting this’”.
“Are we prepared to tell lies, to spread hate and xenophobia just to win a campaign?” she said. “For me that’s a step too far.”**
Lady Warsi was the first female Muslim to ever attend Cabinet, and was previously chair of the Conservative Party.
