Lenten book

I was wondering if Anyone has ideas on what would be a good lenten book on spiritual combat/purification. I will be reading the Life of Christ by Fulton Sheen, but I wanted something for the spiritual life and the struggle with oneself to become more of a Saint.

There is a series of “Fifteen Days of Prayer with Saint xx” (xx meaning different saints).

It’s not so much the story itself…I feel.drawn to recommend the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin May read consistently with meditation and introspection that could also come from any prayer book.

For your purposes I would highly recommend any of the following

The Imitation of Christ by Thomas A Kempis
The Spiritual Combat by Lorenzo Scupoli
Introduction to the Devout Life by St Frances De Sales

You may like to read St Teresa of Avila’s ‘The Interior Castle’ or any one of St Alphonso de Liguori’s works. Google ‘St Anthony of the Desert’.
