lenten penance

I’d like to hear from you guys and gals on this:

I gave up alcohol for lent( except Sundays), but decided to relax and have a drink tonight, with the intention of doing another form of penance or good work in its stead. Is this okay to do? Would you consider this sinful?

Lenten sacrifices are personal devotions, not required by the Church.

No, but I might consider giving up alcohol for Lent as sinful.

In case you didn’t know monks largely subsisted off beer during Lent.

It’s not sinful, just bad form.

Since your lenten penance is self-imposed and is not a requirement, you are free to discontinue it or substitute if you wish.
