Lifeteen daughters/conservative TLM parents

We have been having trouble with our lifeteen leader lately and it has put division between my twin daughters(15) and myself. I don’t feel that he is teaching them good solid Catholic doctrine. Example: last week he took them to see ‘’ Dodgeball’’. They told me that it had a lot of swearing in it. I called him on it and he said “well, you signed the permission slip” I told him that I trusted him and it was his responsibility as the youth leader to preview the movies first. Just one example of us not seeing eye to eye.
We have since changed parishes and now I have a daughter who “will never talk to me again” I’m just not real wild about lifeteen and I feel that it is a liturgical abuse to have kids standing up on the altar during the consecration and running all over the church during the sign of peace.
I want my kids taught the right way, not the liberal progressive way. Any words to the wise for an old fogey(48)?

let them go to lifeteen, and you personally stay for the mass and also go to the other churchWhen or if you ever feel you can trust the lifeteen group then let them fully participate.
However, lifeteen is really not for the well-educated Catholic teen, it is for teens who do no have an understanding of their faith

There are parishes that have Life Teen masses who do it properly. No abuses. How you would find one though I have no idea.

Moira,

I notice you are in Phoenix, the home of Life Teen. I read recently (last week), that Monsignor Fuschek agreed to bring the Life Teen Masses more in line with the GIRM. Hopefully all of the parishes doing Life Teen will be eliminating any liturgical abuses.

Life Teen stresses faithfulness to the magisterium of the Catholic Church. If a youth minister is straying from this, then it isn’t due to Life Teen. If you have already spoken charitably to him about Dodgeball and have not gotten satisfactory results, then speak to your pastor.

You should see the liturgical abuses going away. Life Teen has a pretty strong organization and I would imagine they would get the word out quickly regarding conforming to the GIRM.

As for your daughter not speaking to you, well, she will eventually. I can’t count the number of times my son has claimed I ruined his life—and he’s only 7!

Good Luck,
Cathy

If you head over to the LIFETEEN website, I think you can find that the leaders were told to stop the liturgy abuses, especially gathering around the alter and saying the Mass never ends. The people that are in charge of LIFETEEN said that they are totally faithful to the magisterium so they will do it.

So I would go back and check it out. If you have anymore problems, you’ll probably want to talk to the priest and lead the LIFETEEN leader know that you want want to be informed of all aspects beforehand so you have the freedom to make an informed decision on what you children can join. I even suggest that you participate is some things so you can help keep them on track

I hear daughter!

I'm a little confused. Is the Lifeteen program in your new parish, or your old one? Is only one daughter not talking to you? Did you switch parishes for other reasons, or just because of Lifeteen? Did you actually attend the Lifeteen mass with your daughters, or are you going by what other people are saying takes place?

Personally, I've seen Lifeteen masses done properly and I've seen ones that anything goes. If you have a problem with the youth leader, make an appointment with the priest and voice your concerns. Sounds like there are two different problems occurring, because the movie doesn't have anything to do with what may be happening at LifeTeen. Isn't there suppose to be a core group for the Lifeteen masses that you can talk to? I would tackle the two situations separately.

If your faith is genuine, wait patiently and pray for them. They will grow it up it anything is wrong with that

Wasn't [Msgr] Fuschek [sp?] expelled from the priesthood for immorality? I thought he got into trouble with the Archbishop. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not married, and so no children. Even if I did have kids, I would NOT send them to LifeTeen. I would want to bring them up right, and not get them involved in this.

Parents are supposed to be the 'first' religious instructors to their kids-NOT groups like LifeTeen!

Someone posted on an old thread. The OP's twins are no longer teenagers and their "old fogey" parent is now 54. And it is possible that the Life Teen Mass in the parish, if still there, is doing things a little differently now. Anyway the thread is from 2004.

I always wonder why on this forum (CAF) people have the tendancy to post on threads that are over a year old! Stop already! In any other forums you would be chewed out for doing this. If you have questions, PM the OP, or start a new thread!!! This is so old and no need to bring it up again. Anything passed 1 year should be left alone.
