I am new to forums and do not know how to even navigate here. So, please fogive me if this question doesn’t belong here. I am looking for the name of a saint from the United States. He was a black man who lived in New York. I’m not sure but I think he may have been a slave. He was a hairdresser. Is this enough information to be able to indentify the saint I am looking for? — Thank you for any help!
Martin de Porres is the patron of hairdressers, but he lived in Peru I think.
You might be referring to Venerable Pierre Toussaint. He is not yet canonized.
You can read more about him here:
That is the man I was thinking of! Thank you so much!
I hope he is canonized soon. I read about him years ago and then just recently. He is in inspiration to me - what a holy man!
And he was a good husband and father too. I think we need that example.
