This is incorrect. Communism is also contradictory.
From QUOD APOSTOLICI MUNERIS:
"You understand, venerable brethren, that We speak of that sect of men who, under various and almost barbarous names, are called socialists, communists, or nihilists, and who, spread over all the world, and bound together by the closest ties in a wicked confederacy, no longer seek the shelter of secret meetings, but, openly and boldly marching forth in the light of day, strive to bring to a head what they have long been planning - the overthrow of all civil society whatsoever." (Emphasis added)
A nihilist and a socialist are two different animals. I am a socialist, I am also firmly opposed to abortion and disagree with homosexual marriage. I do believe in the state's duty to care for all it's members and to serve it's people to the utmost of it's ability. Although that also entails a responsibilit on individuals to behave in a mature fashion with regards to preserving the best elements of the society the currently live in which seeking to reform or remove the worst elements. I do not seek 'an overthrow of all civil society' since whatever the faults of Britain and Ireland (the two societies I have lived in the most) they are not draconian tyrannies and armed revolution would not be a fitting response to the issues facing them.
Although I would not always rule out overthrowing the state, and indeed since like Americans I come from a country founded via a revolution we should be wary of arguing that always overthrowing the existing regime is intrinsically evil.
