Mary song

#1

I am looking for a song that I used to hear every Christmas Eve at my church. I tried to google the few lyrics that I know, but nothing came up. Some of the lyrics are, “The angel said Mary, you’re gonna have a baby, we’re gonna call him wonderful, counselor, mighty god, and the prince of peace” Does anyone know what song I am talking about? Thanks!

You’re not thinking of Mary’s Boy Child are you?

Mary's Boy Child...is that this one:

Long time ago in Bethlehem,
So the holy Bible say, Mary's Boy Child, Jesus Christ
Was born on Christmas Day.

I like that song a lot, but it doesn't seem like a song that's appropriate for Mass. I don't recall any words about wonderful or counsellor. For Unto Us a Child Is Born has those words, but one would probably remember that. I can remember hearing Whitney Houston and Cece Wynans (I'm not sure that's the right last name) sing something with those words about 20 years ago on some TV show, but I can't think of anything else offhand.

Yes thats the one. You're probably right about being appropriate for Mass. But I could see them singing something like that before the mass starts as the congregation is gathering.

I may be too late, but I too was looking for the lyrics to this song. My family used to sing it for the residents of a local nursing home at a Christmas program we put on for them. So, I called my sister and together we were able to come up with what we think is the whole song. Hope this is what you are looking for.

Mary Had a Baby

This is a story of where Jesus made his home
He loved us so he couldn’t leave us all alone
He chose to come to us a tiny little child
His mother, Mary, held him close and then she smiled

I’m sure she thought of how the angel came that day
The town of Nazareth now seemed so far away
The words the angel brought were tidings of great joy
She told the Virgin she would have a baby boy

Refrain:
The Angel said “Mary, you’re gonna have a baby.
The world will call Him Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, and the Prince of Peace.”
(Repeat refrain)

And so in cold and dark the Savior came to earth
While angels sang to shepherds of the baby’s birth
They told them words that man for ages long to hear
They said, “The Savior lives and there’s no need to fear!”

Refrain
The angels said, “Mary, Mary had a baby.
The world will call Him Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, and the Prince of Peace.”
(Repeat refrain)

That’s not the end of what my story has to say.
The birth of Jesus could begin again today.
Make a manger for the Savior of your soul.
Give Him a room and he will love and make you whole.

The angel said, “Mary, Mary had a baby.
The world has called Him Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, and the Prince of Peace.”
(Repeat refrain)

I know that He is Wonderful…Counselor….Mighty God…and the Prince of Peace.

Merry Christmas and God Bless you!!!

Thank you! I was looking for that song as well. Does anyone know where you can get music to it? I only know the tune of the refrain.

I can't find the music anywhere! I just know it from singing it as a child. If you find it, please post. Best of luck!

Yep, please post the music as it sounds like my children would love it! :)

It's not this one?

"[E] Mary had a baby oh my Lord
[A] Mary had a baby oh my Lord
[G] Mary had a baby [B7] oh my Lord
[A] People keep a-comin' an' the [B7] train done gone

What did she name Him oh my Lord
What did she name Him oh my Lord
What did she name Him oh my Lord
People keep a-comin' an' the train done gone

She named Him Jesus oh my Lord
She named Him Jesus oh my Lord
She named Him Jesus oh my Lord
People keep a-comin' an' the train done gone

Where was He born oh my Lord
Where was He born oh my Lord
Where was He born oh my Lord
People keep a-comin' an' the train done gone

Born in a stable oh my Lord
Born in a stable oh my Lord
Born in a stable oh my Lord
People keep a-comin' an' the train done gone

And where did she lay Him oh my Lord
And where did she lay Him oh my Lord
And where did she lay Him oh my Lord
People keep a-comin' an' the train done gone

She laid Him in a manger oh my Lord
She laid Him in a manger oh my Lord
She laid Him in a manger oh my Lord
People keep a-comin' an' the train done gone"

The song "MARY HAD A BABY" that you are looking for can be found in sheet music form and or downloaded at the following website; www.ilpmusic.org

It was written by Kathy McGovern and copyright 1976 EKKLESIA Music, INC.

I was looking for it and came across your search.

The words that were given above were almost all correct!

At this time they are having a christmas sale and the song can be purchased in an mp3 file for about $1....I did that and ordered the sheet music for about the same price plus shipping.

I love the song, and will be singing it at church in a few days....

Merry Christmas and God Bless
