Hi Guys, I Have a vice of masturbation and porn, I Was wondering what you guys do after committing the sin (if you do) and how you stop yourself. Any tips would be appreciated, I really NEED to stop, its getting to much now. I am normally fine until around the 2 week mark then temptation gets the best of me. Please pray for me. Thanks.

Youre not alone. Most priests I’m friends with, who know I struggle with it have assured me it is probably the single most confessed thing they hear. It is an epidemic ruining relationships and marriages. It affects people in every state of life including people we never would think…
It is pride really. It is a temptation to achieve a high that is really just an illusion and by doing it we use Gods children as objects.
I personally would go to confession first of all, and try to get yourself a good spiritual advisor. There are ways to address this. We are prone to be tempted while in a certain state whether loneliness or stress. All triggers.
Do not be ashamed of this. It is a cross many men and women for that matter bear. Fleshly desires are easy. Read St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians chapter 5 I believe it is. It discusses the battle between spirit and flesh. Believe it or not this struggle is nothing new, it’s just in the era we live it is so easily accessible where as it wasn’t always this way. God bless.

Block your computer and your phone from reaching those sites.

Make use of confession. I quit. I used to do it every day. Now it’s never

-Pray the Rosary
-Pray every day
-Make use of small, everyday denials - If you can say no to extra carbs, chocolate, unnessecary social media, etc and say yes to penances like cold showers, sleeping on the floor, cardio, you can strengthen your willpower.
-Find friends to hold you accountable.

Whenever you’re tempted, pray “Lord help me” as often as needed. Pray to the Blessed Mother. Have confidence that God hears you. As a former porn addict, I can say it can be done with God’s help.

I began to make progress when I accepted that virtue is a struggle and I quit looking for easy solutions.

Prepare yourself for a long trial, and be patient and persistent.

1 My child, if you aspire to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for an ordeal.

2 Be sincere of heart, be steadfast, and do not be alarmed when disaster comes.

3 Cling to him and do not leave him, so that you may be honoured at the end of your days.
Sirach 2

You may fall repeatedly, but by the blood of Christ Satan is already defeated. Cling to His mercy and remain faithful wretched as you may be.

One that can really help with this is Fasting. Wether it be an intermittent fast, skipping a meal per day, or cutting something else out.

I’m doing a Novena to Blessed Paul VI who is being canonized in a few weeks; I thought it fitting because he did Humanae Vitae.
