Matthew 24: Olivet Discourse

What is the Catholic Church’s official teaching on Matthew 24? Is it ALL already fulfilled? If not, what parts are yet to be fulfilled?

Part of Matthew 24 relates to the desecration of the Temple by the Romans, and to the First Jewish Revolt (and suppression thereof by the Romans, which included the destruction of the Temple). But part of it refers to Jesus’s Second Coming, which obviously hasn’t happened yet. Unfortunately, the two events are kind of mishmashed together, which makes it quite confusing to the reader (and has prompted many to believe that many of the early Christians believed Jesus was returning immediately upon the Second Temple’s destruction).

The most important things to remember, though, are that (a) the events surrounding the destruction of the Second Temple is considered “the beginning of the labor pains”, (b) the gospel must be proclaimed to all nations, © Jesus will come back when He comes back - and no one knows when He will come back, (d) most people will be utterly unprepared when Jesus returns.
