Matthew and Matthias

A pretty straightforward question for the language scholars:

Are the names Matthew and Matthias distinctly different in the Semitic languages Aramaic and Hebrew, or are they derivations of the same root name? What about the Greek of the New Testament?

Do we translate them differently just to differentiate between the personages?

Thanks for you help.
