I like to practice basic yoga moves as exercise, but I’ve found that I actually like to incorporate prayer with my yoga. Saying the “Our Father” and meditating on each phrase as I move through my yoga routine, including the deep breathing, I feel brings me into deeper awareness of the meaning of the words. Is this in any way opposed to Catholic teaching?
Praying with your body is most appropriate for Christians. In the Eastern Church they often incorporate the Jesus Prayer with breathing. The Liturgy incorporates bodily jestures with prayer.
I use my body to pray the Liturgy of the Hours every day as a Dominican. We kneel, sit, stand and bow throughout the various hours. Go to it!
