Mill Hill Missionaries

This is a missionary congregation that was founded in the UK in the 1800s. Their form of commitment is an oath.

They were present to the African-American community in the US when slavery ended.

The Franciscan Missionary Sisters of St Joseph are their female counterpart.

The Franciscan Sisters of Baltimore were also connected with the Mill Hill Mission Fathers. They worked with the African American community almost exclusively. In 2001, facing declining numbers, they merged with the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi (Lake Street Franciscans) in Milwaukee. I did research in their archives before they merged. A fascinating group, and very lovely people.
